My ds (17) and 3 of his friends (1 male 2 female!!!) had a camp out in the garden saturday night,(never done it before) now im a very light sleeper so was sure they behaved themselves as i went to bed at midnight and then didnt hear a sound from them....
anyhoo my neighbour complained to ds today about the noise at 12.30 sat night and said he wasnt happy about it.
well im not that over joyed at being woken every saturday and sunday morning at 7.30am by their toddler in the garden or screeching in his bedroom or by the father cleaning his car at the crack of dawn EVERY sunday BUT i accept it because thats their life and how they live it.
so shouldnt they just accept that i have teenagers and a bit of noise (if there was any?) once in a blue moon should be expected or AIBU?

They are being unreasonable. It was Saturday night FFS.

You sound lovely letting your DS and friends do that, and tolerant of their lifestyle. Don't let them get to you, they are BU.

pointydog · 22/04/2008 18:43

I would try to speak to your neighbour face to face and find out just how much noise there was in his opinion. Maybe he didn't find it that bad and would be willing to accept it as an occasional event. Then you could maybe talk quite amicably about toddlers/teenagers.

thanks guys, i must add that i have an extremely large garden (200ft) and they were camped righta t the top of it so any noise would have been very muffled and distant!!!

shatteredmumsrus · 22/04/2008 18:49

what a miserable git!Chill out neighbours!

mustsleep · 22/04/2008 18:49

yanbu i think that if it was a regular thing then your neighbour would be quite right to have a word but if it's just a one off and still fairly early on

but maybe they woke up the noisy toddler

our neighbours are fairly noisy and i do get quite narky about it sometimes especially late at night, but by the time it's morning i can see how noisy we might seem to then when the kids are screaming at each other

DarthVader · 22/04/2008 18:50

what did you say to the neighbour?

Milliways · 22/04/2008 18:53

YANBU but I would have warned the neighbour beforehand.

We also have a v.long garden & if DD is having a party they like to bounce on the trampoline v.late (& girls shriek a lot). Neighbours are fine as it is not very often (once per school holidays?) but I always warn them.

pointydog · 22/04/2008 18:54

Must admit, if my kids are sleeping out we tell close neighbours beforehand

mshadowsisfab · 22/04/2008 18:54

yanbu they are

smeeinit · 22/04/2008 18:55

darthvader i havent seen the neighbour to talk to him,ds dealt with him........i think he just replied "well your only young once"!!

Beelliesebub · 22/04/2008 19:06

You're definitely not unreasonable.... I think that some people just feel the need to twine... and by the way, your ds dealt with him brilliantly...

Beeper · 22/04/2008 19:38

I would personally be more concerned about what was going on in the tent. IFYSWIM

smeeinit · 22/04/2008 23:14

beeper,ds is 17 almost 18........im quite sure i have a good idea what he gets up to, although not whilst in a tent with his mate
