To go back to brunette?

I had a consultation with a hairdresser I’ve been to a couple of times and said I was ready to go back to brunette.

She talked me out of it by saying it will be hard for me to suddenly have one dimensional hair again and I’ll get bored.

I don’t know what to do

Brunette doesn't have to be one dimensional. You can have highlights and lowlights, just like with blonde. Transitioning from blonde to brunette isn't as easy as it sounds though - I think it's common to end up with a muddy look for a bit as the colour washes out faster.

Although it’s probably a valid point, I’ve had it done myself and it turned out nice. I don’t think a good hairdresser should be scared of such a task. Maybe shop around..

An example of what I mean

To go back to brunette?

Dunno if relevant to you age-wise, but note that grey growth shows up really quickly in dark hair 🙇🏻‍♀️🫣😤😫

Is it you? By this, I mean, I have always had blonde hair. White blonde as a child, but it then darkened to a mid-brown, and, from mid-teens on I got highlights and was always blonde.
Once, mid-thirties, because I thought that, after all, it was actually now my "natural color," and because I hoped it might make my eyes pop, I went mid-brunette. It looked good, but it just didn't feel like me.
I was discussing this with my hairdresser now, who is superb, and he says that he never would have suggested brunette for me, as so much of my personality matches blonde... (I have no idea what this really means, but certainly feel like myself with my blonde hair... and now my hair is growing through white, it's easier to keep up too).

Born a brunette and stayed as one until 19/20 and went blonde for a year - looked awful but it’s because I didn’t know how to maintain it. I’ve been back brunette, then red and brunette again.

I started the blonde process two years ago and it’s been a long horrible journey, cost so much, had so much hair cut off. It’s finally at a colour I do like but I see brunette hair and I long for it.

It’s just hard because I’ll never go back blonde again in my life once I go brunette as it’s such a hard task and it’ll be far too much damage.

I've gone back to my natural dark hair from blonde but I have kept some blonde in, almost like a balayage as I prefer it to just one flat colour

Ruthietuthie · 06/10/2024 01:59

It sounds to me, if you see brunette and long for it, plus if it has been so much work to get to a blonde that you like, plus you used to be a brunette, then maybe brunette IS you. You can always add some caramel colored balayage if brunette feels too one-dimensional.

"I started the blonde process two years ago and it’s been a long horrible journey, cost so much, had so much hair cut off"

the advice of the hairdresser obviously not swayed at all by how much you'll spend maintaining it blond rather than reverting to your natural colour.

I’ve done it a few times. Honestly just bought a box dye and went for it. The mixes are usually really conditioning and they look good when you keep going with a great conditioner and regular trims for the damage. The colour lifted a little 10-14 days in and it just looked sunkissed brown for me. I grew it out and I’ve been brunette for 15+ years, and I’ve learned to love my natural colour. Just thinking about bayliage now as greys are getting more common and I feel like that might help but I’m really sad to be losing my natural locks so keep putting it off.
