How to repair hair that has been burnt?

Some of my hair near the top of my scalp is constantly knotty / frizzy. It wouldn’t brush out and I wondered what had happened. My hairdresser told me that I must have burnt it accidentally using a hairdryer too close (I don’t curl my hair that high).

She said I need to use deep conditioning treatment… has anyone else had this and had success in repairing the hair??

You cannot repair heat damage. You will have to grow it out/ cut it off. Next time use low heat and a heat protectant.

Steaming/ deep conditioning might make it easier to manage but the damage will still be there.

A bond repair treatment such as Olaplex no3 will help but nothing can fix it. I’d be surprised if you’ve managed to burn your hair so high up you didn’t also feel your scalp burning.

I burnt mine a while back with a too hot curling iron, totally frazzled and snapped off. I used a Kerastase conditioning mask I cant remember the name but its the one in a mint green tub. Also used Redken anti-snap spray generously over the burnt area. Then try to avoid heat styling as much as possible. My hair has grown back now in good condition and I was able to have it coloured as normal.

The bit of hair though which is frizzy / knotted / burnt doesn’t seem to be growing out… it’s just there but if I cut it off I think there would be a clump missing from my head

I would second the Redken anti snap treatment - it really smooths out the appearance of the hair.

I would use k18 or olaplex 3 & 6.

But it’s not going to fix it completely. You will have to wait for it to grow out.

Maybe start oiling your scalp, look at Hair syrups website. Their Vitamin C it good for damage and a scalp massage will help the hair grow. Their rapunzel or growsmary is good for boosting growth.

Thanks everyone for your tips!

So I just used the Philip Kingley elasticizer deep conditioning treatment - https://www.philipkingsley.co.uk/philip-kingsley-elasticizer.html - which I shamefully have had in my bathroom cupboard for over a year.

But OMG it has worked wonders on the patch of hair that I think is burnt. It's not knotted, it's smooth and I can run a hairbrush through it with no problem.

So maybe the bit of hair isn't actually burnt, but just incredibly... dry?

My hair feels very soft but is still giving that dry / frizzy look though.

Have a look at the various Color Wow products. They are like magic. Can get them cheaper on Vinted.
