Driver got OTT angry at me

Angrydriver · 03/10/2024 21:22

This evening, I was driving, and a van cut into my lane behind me on a roundabout. I knew I was in the right lane as there were road markings showing correctly and the cars in front were in the same lane as me.

The van driver proceeded to blow the horn at me, flash his lights, more blowing the horn, and swearing and shouting at me. Name calling. He then over took by going back into the other lane, and proceeded to name call me further at the lights. I had my primary age children in the car with me and I informed him that I had children in the car and that he was in the wrong lane. He proceeded to mock me for being a woman and point and laughed at me, call me names again. Then a few minutes later he sped past me and swearing with fingers and shouting abuse, not looking where he was going.

I was pretty shaken up but I don't understand why drivers get so heated? He cut into my lane behind me. I've double checked my boot camera and he definitely cut into my lane.

I guess this is more of a rant. But why are drivers so careless?

Who knows? Maybe he thought you should have let him in, maybe he thought you were too slow. Doesn't really matter what he thought as clearly a bell end. I wouldn't advise arguing with people like that though as it's not safe - frustrating I know!

You should consider passing your boot camera footage to the police.

I couldn't go any faster as there were cars in front of me. This was also rush hour so maybe he didn't like the traffic. I was just shocked that anyone would get so angry when they could clearly see children in the car.

There's a depressing number of complete and utter psychopaths in charge of cars sadly. I would have completely blanked him though.

StormingNorman · 03/10/2024 21:56

Men feel free to give full expression to their misogyny when they get behind the wheel.

Paisleydad · 03/10/2024 22:34

It never used to be like this.

Except my dad. He got fairly shouty behind the wheel. 😕

I don't. Getting there a few seconds later really doesn't matter that much.

Copperoliverbear · 03/10/2024 22:37

I would give my footage to the police and report him for dangerous driving.

Motomum23 · 03/10/2024 22:40

In future laugh and wave... if they know they aren't angering you it tends to stop their rant!,;)

Closetheblinds · 03/10/2024 23:07

95% ego, 5% entitlement.
id have laughed and waved at him as i left him behind, preferably at a red light or even better, stuck in a yellow box

Yes do this - your local police force should have a website where you can enter details of the incident and upload your dashcam/bootcam footage. In my area they tell you if they take further action against the driver (but not what specifically).
Women shouldn’t be expected or advised to just laugh and wave at this sort of thing, it’s not acceptable and probably illegal.

Scutterbug · 03/10/2024 23:18

He sounds like a twat. Don’t give him the headspace.

NezumiNezumi · 03/10/2024 23:19

Because he’s a misogynistic bully. It’s not ‘drivers’ it’s entitled men like this.

Rosybud88 · 03/10/2024 23:22

There is a misplaced sense of entitlement on the roads. Submit the video to the police and rest in the knowledge that one day they will do it to the wrong person. Karma will come.

Jiski · 09/10/2024 19:18

He’s a total ahole. Send the footage to nextbase. nextbase.co.uk/national-dash-cam-safety-portal/

AgnesX · 09/10/2024 19:22

White van man? Probably a generic prick. Unfortunately they're all around us. For some reason it seems to come with the territory.

Northernladdette · 09/10/2024 19:23

Idiots like that don’t care if you have kids in your car. Try not to take it personally, he’s a bellend 🙄

DisorganisedMummyTurningOrgnaised · 09/10/2024 19:39

Report to the police - if he’s shouting abuse at you because of your sex it could be a hate crime and they will prosecute. We had the same sort of thing happen to us - driver cut in, then stopped in the middle of the road, got out and threatened us. We’ve reported it and sent our dashcam footage and they are prosecuting!

MoreCardassianThanKardashian · 09/10/2024 19:39

Could you have done something incorrectly or offensive prior and not realised? Most importantly something he perceived as incorrect? Nothing you've said explains why he would be acting that way although I have been flashed to move over despite congestion and lots of cars in front of me. I always move over and start flashing them back when I move back.

Even if you did something wrong, his response is not warranted and the best thing to do is get away from them safely and ignore.

I drive A LOT and I have this occasionally and it's almost always men. Sometimes it's me. We all have bad days, react in a way that we are later embarrassed about.

Bonbon249 · 09/10/2024 20:15

Definitely report him. To the person that said waving and laughing might be considered illegal, I don't think so - it's only illegal if it's a rude or threatening gesture likely to cause fear and alarm.

Blipette · 09/10/2024 20:26

Ah typical twatty man behaviour when they do something wrong. Rather than admit their mistake they automatically go to aggression. Bet he wouldn’t have done it on a fella incase he picked in a bigger bully than himself.

bamboopot · 09/10/2024 20:27

I know it's super childish, but if a male driver 99.9% of the time) does this to me, if I get a safe chance, I make a fist with my hand except for my little finger and wiggle that at them....as in "you have a tiny dick"

As I said, childish but usually puts them in their place.
