Second hand bed smells

Just bought a second hand bed off Facebook marketplace and paid £10 to have it delivered. Didn’t pay much as desperately needed a bed as my little boy broke the base of the original bed. It’s not my little boys bed, it’s a double bed for mine and DHs room.

This new bed stinks! 🤢I’m gutted!!

When the seller (man) brought it into the house my heart sank as I could see it was in bad condition, looked very old and worn (it’s just the bed base) I gave it the benefit of the doubt as the old bed is destroyed.

Basically this bed reeks! An old musty damp horrible smell that’s now going through the whole house. I only paid £25 for it but still. Would you just dump the whole thing outside and get a new bed or deal it it?! It’s like someone died in it 💀🙈

From Amazon

Not short of money but pays £25 quid for a bed from Facebook delivered by a bloke who looks dodgy as fuck???

I can’t imagine what you’d do if you were skint.

Dreams have a 'sale' on at the moment. Which means cheaper prices, eg double bed frames from a £200 or thereabouts. They'll go back up in a couple of weeks for about a month so they can go on sale again. You can pay to have the bed frame collected when they deliver the new one.

Is it wood? Get it out right now. Smelly old wood could so easily have a bedbug infestation, they don't just thrive in fabric, they can get down into any gap big enough to slot a credit card into and thrive.

Is it a mattress too? Envy

MellersSmellers · 03/10/2024 18:37

Get rid
But you could be fined for fly tipping if you dump it outside, plus you'd annoy your neighbours. Take it to your local "civic amenity site" (I.e. dump) and dispose of it responsibly, then put the whole thing down to experience

I would never fly tip - just planned to put it by our back gate in our garden so it won’t look like in eyesore either.

Nope just the divan base.

True! I had a moment of madness at 3am 🙈

I can't think of anything worse than having a second hand smelly bed!

Iheartmysmart · 03/10/2024 18:55

Oh gosh OP, that sounds horrible. My downstairs neighbour had a new bed delivered several months ago and put his old one in the communal area until he could get it collected. The smell was awful! And he’s a pretty house proud person. It took ages to get rid of the smell - the windows were open and I kept burning wax melts to try and get rid of it.

liquidsquidli · 03/10/2024 19:01

In that case chuck and put the mattress on the floor.

Assuming it was fabric so held the smell I've sold three beds on Facebook- they never go for much though maybe £20

You could always get a couple of pallets for under the mattress if you are short of funds
