Has anyone gone back to ebay as its now free to list?
Can you sell anything on Vinted or just clothes?
Has Vinted overtaken Ebay now?

Isn't Ebay going to be completely free for private sellers soon (no insertion or final value fees)? I got an email about it a few days ago. Hope it's true!

I gave up selling second hand clothes on eBay when they made it too difficult and expensive.

I find Vinted okay, both as buyer and seller but I never pay large amounts for anything - the risk is too high, and I’d never buy electronics from Vinted. I stick to clothes and small low value items. I did get some good value GCSE revision guides recently though!

I have contemplated returning to eBay, as I feel Vinted is getting too “big” and sellers are playing games more than they used to. I only EVER buy from sellers with a good track record - i also look at their whole collection before I buy, as the quality and price of other items often gives you a clue what kind of seller they are.

There are still bargains to be had on Vinted!

I only buy and sell on Vinted now
Used to use EBay a lot , as in sell hundreds of pounds worth of stuff on there .
Then the listing process became too long and detailed and fees too high so that’s why I switched to Vinted and I love it.
Been on Vinted since the start when it launched in the UK years and years ago.
So easy to list and complete bargains to be had and I love the Vinted “ balance “ where everything I sell goes in there and I have that separate “ pot “ to buy me and the DC new stuff.

Vinted takes minutes to put an item online. EBay drives me nuts, all those photos , looong description, postage aaaagh

I'm going back to eBay. Vinted has been fine for me, I've bought and sold there for a couple of years or so, but 2 weeks ago I had an eyebrow pencil I bought delivered, except it was just an empty box. The seller clearly hadn't put any other packaging in the box which had then got a bit squashed so the pencil must have fallen out a hole (of which there were a few). I'm still waiting for a resolution despite sending the same photo evidence through twice and I don't expect to hear back any time soon as I've heard nothing for over a week.

Vinted is great until it goes wrong and then it's useless. I'm just glad I found that out on something relatively inexpensive.

I never left eBay. Haven't heard good things about Vinted.

Agree

I love Vinted, don't like eBay

Pottedpalm · 04/10/2024 18:01

I think it’s only secondhand clothing that’s free

Moanranger · 04/10/2024 18:11

Long term eBay user. It has been generally good for me, both for buying & selling. It has its weak points, but these can be avoided.
First & only time I used Vinted, I was scammed. It was eventually resolved, but left a bad taste, so I am sticking with eBay

I've stuck with eBay and have periods when I sell a lot then don't go near it for a few months. It's generally more reliable than Vinted I've found. Lately it's felt like I'm giving eBay a huge chunk of the sale so it will be good if that improves.

One thing I've found since EBay has been doing auto-renewing on unsold items; when the item automatically renews the postage label you have carefully selected to be the right weight etc when you uploaded the item, quietly defaults to a letter rate on the new listing (it does for me at any rate). I didn't notice this the first couple of times until I was in the PO being told I didn't have adequate postage. I then had to get a refund and pay again for my postage and it was a pain. Another package I didn't notice and nor did the PO so that got lost in the post and is sitting in some depot marked "inadequate postage" and I've had to refund the buyer.

The woman at the PO said she's turning lots of people away with eBay generated postage labels that aren't enough to cover the cost. I've found you have to mark the item as dispatched then go in to "manage postage" and change the weight and dimension so it generates the appropriate label.

Boring but worth knowing!
