Asking lots of questions for a free toy - cf?

I had a ball pit and put it in my local mums group - stated it's free and first 6 part of my post code. It's a local mums group, for a suburb.

A mum than messaged me if it had any marks, if it was damaged and where I lived.

Aibu in thinking the picture was sufficient?

It's a ball pit and our babies are crawling stage - so hir and miss if it's actually used.

I think they're perfectly reasonable questions. I don't think asking perfectly reasonable questions makes her a CF.

My daughter was giving away loads of kitchen items .. including tupper wear.
A woman came to collect them and said " oh they looked bigger on the site. .. do you have any bigger ones"?
My daughter just said.. it's not B&M.. if you don't want them ..I'll offer them to someone else.

Pippa12 · 02/10/2024 19:32

Maybe she couldn’t be fussed travelling for it if it wasn’t in good condition? I don’t think it CF territory… unless she’s asked you to drop it off 😂

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 02/10/2024 19:33

Not CF. Too many people try to give away stuff, or worse still, sell it, that is dirty/smoky/furry/broken.

TemuSpecialBuy · 02/10/2024 19:35

Drives me crazy…

it’s free….

i had this on vinted today
10mins after I uploaded an item a woman sends 5 separate questions about an item that retails at £40 in excellent barely used condition which I am selling for £6 (cheapest on vinted others are £10 or more)

she then offers £4.50

🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤯

I'm struggling to bother these days

A picture should be sufficient? If you are buying something, fair enough, a free item with a picture.... What's the issue?

Annoying. I usually use an A4 piece of paper for size reference

Maybe she wants to re-sell it for money or give it as a Christmas gift, hence wasn't it almost new looking?

The thing that would annoy me is asking the suburb when the postcode was already provided! I had this exact issue with a different item. Back and forth conversations about a free item!
We arranged collection, time, gave address etc. She said I had been wasting her time, because she lived too far away! My postcode and map was in the original listing! 🙄

RickiRaccoon · 02/10/2024 19:42

It's often hard to determine condition form photos and I wouldn't want someone else's bulky rubbish so I think it's fair enough to ask if it's damaged in a way you couldn't see in the picture. I wouldn't be expecting more questions than that.

Agh so annoying
Facebook is bad as you have the map but I always give my "area"/suburb.

This is just from mums from my local group so it should be close.

It's a ball pit. How on earth can it be damaged? Also marks are going to affect it how? If you want good condition stuff don't expect it to be free?

I don't think that's cheeky at all. I've seen people offering things free of charge on one of my local groups which look to be in good condition, but when you actually see them, they are scratched/dirty/ damaged which doesn't show in the pictures. It's really easy to take photos of things which don't show their defects. I've been delighted to give a home to second hand things in the past, but if I couldn't be certain of the condition, I would still ask questions. I always clean anything I'm giving away or selling as much as I possibly can but have found from experience thst some other people don't do this. Just because something is free doesn't mean that I want something that is damaged or marked so I don't think it's unreasonable to ask.

malmi · 02/10/2024 19:59

Look if it's damaged then you do need to state that even if it's free, people don't want to waste petrol to take your rubbish to the tip for them.
