School asking for appointment proof11

Ds ( 11) has had about 4 days off from school in two years sick. In September I had to collect him at 1 due to my dentist appointment ( quite a distance away and, because of the intense work needed , I would be able to get back til after 6, leaving them alone in the house for 2.5 hours), 1 tomorrow to visit a possible new high school then 1 next week for a consultant ASD assessment. ( We've been waiting two years for this). They are asking for proof. I didn't have proof of my dentist appointment, I don't have proof of the school visit and I haven't received a hospital appointment letter yet as they rang me and booked it on the phone. Do I have to prove why I'm taking my child out of school for half a day? Like I said it can't be because of poor attendance.

Our local brace dentist won't give proof and they won't let you choose or change your appointment either. Obviously it's full of secondary school children! We have to screenshot the location as 'evidence'. 🙄

The appointment was for the OP, not her son

Visiting a possible new high school is usually done out if school time - most schools run open evenings or an open Saturday Morning.

That's not a medical or illness absence.

Presumably it was a private tour? In which case do you have emails saying you were coming?

Your dentist appointment is unlikely to be authorised as he didn't need to be out of school for that - you could have arranged after school club or a relative or another person to pick him up up.

In the area we live, all secondary schools have open mornings for tours of the school. There is a special code for the register which makes it an authorised absence.

Viewing schools is not unauthorised- there is a code they mark it on the register as it's very common for year 6s to go to open mornings in autumn term before they have to apply! Never had to give proof - the schools are usually aware of local secondary open days as often many of the other children will also be visiting the school!

Do you have a receipt of payment from your dentist? Bank transaction? Car park ticket? That’s easily done.
Re ASD assessment, ask the medical secretary to provide you with an invite via email.
Re school visit, now you surely have booked a spot on the school visit and have received an email about it. Every time we had done a school visit we booked it online and got a confirmation. Or email the prospective school about the open day, print out the comms and show it to your own school.

Appointment was for me it was 2 x 40 min procedures that were four hours apart. As I previously stated, DS is SEN and there is no one else to pick them up/ be at home - nc with family and had DV with ex ( her dad ). Appointment letter confirmation for hospital hasn't arrived and secondary tour was arranged on phone to be an individual tour so DS doesn't get overwhelmed as has sensory issues.
