Shamelessly posting for traffic

I'm.in bed with yet another sinus and chest infection. Taking antibiotics and painkillers etc.

But I'm so bunged up in the chest and ears, coughing lots and cannot hear anything.

So I'm asking for old wives tips, random things that work, anything at all to get rid of the gunk in my chest and head.

And AIBU to be amazed at how ill I feel from what started as a head cold

Try a salt water sniff. Put half teaspoon of salt in a cup ,add boiled water. Wait for it to cool, till it's tepid or completly cool. Then standing over a sink, block one nostril with finger then pour some of the water in your other cupped hand and sniff the salty solution through your other nostril. Be prepared for it to loosen all the snot and get ready to spit it out! You may also want some kitchen roll handy to gently blow nose after. Then repeat with other nostril. Repeat 4-5 times a day. This was taught to me by my grandfather as a child who lived to a respectable 96, so never did him any halm! Intact I do believe this is now recommended on the NHS website.
Hope you feel better soon

Sit upright in a hot bath and give yourself a sinus massage. You want to concentrate on sweeping motions across the face as well as massaging around your clavicles.

It really works!

I know as I have personal experience. Mullein is a wonderful herb for this. You can buy Mullein leaf and thyme tea on amazon. Comes next day. Helps me so much with mucus.

Steam inhalation with or without albas oil. You can buy steam inhalation cups for about a £5-7 pounds on Amazon or use a bowl full of recently boiled water with a towel over your head. Breath the steam for 10 - 15 minutes, 2 - 4 times a day.
A warm bath will also create a steam effect.
Make sure you stay hydrated.
Use huffing and deep breathing to shift gunk and make it easier to cough up.

My daughter is tube fed via her tummy and we often use fresh pineapple juice when she's poorly!

"The bromelain in pineapple juice may also thin mucus that causes congestion in the sinuses or chest. Together with its anti-inflammatory properties, pineapple juice may relieve symptoms of the common cold and allergies."

Use a salt inhaler and stop dairy for a while.

Garlic and horseradish tabs for the sinus.

Ginger tea for the mucus.

Steaming helps me - I've bought a face steamer cup now but previously used a bowl and towel over my head.

I also do nasal rinsing (you need the proper sachets/neti pot)

If you have access to a steam room or sauna use it.

Medication suggestion is Sinutab, it gave me relief in the past with sinus pressure. Wives tale suggestion, 52 clove garlic soup (not sure if it works):
Garlic Soup Made With 52 Cloves of Garlic
A soup based on more than 50 cloves of garlic, onions, thyme and lemon will destroy almost any virus that enters its path including colds and flu
Modified Garlic Soup Recipe
Serves 4
26 garlic cloves (unpeeled)
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons (1/4 stick) organic butter (grass fed)
1/2 teaspoon cayenne powder
1/2 cup fresh ginger
2 1/4 cups sliced onions
1 1/2 teaspoons chopped fresh lemon thyme
26 garlic cloves, peeled
1/2 cup coconut milk
3 1/2 cups organic vegetable broth
4 lemon wedges
Preheat oven to 350F. Place 26 garlic cloves in small glass baking dish. Add 2 tablespoons olive oil and sprinkle with sea salt and toss to coat. Cover baking dish tightly with foil and bake until garlic is golden brown and tender, about 45 minutes. Cool. Squeeze garlic between fingertips to release cloves. Transfer cloves to small bowl.
Melt butter in heavy large saucepan over medium-high heat. Add onions, thyme, ginger and cayenne powder and cook until onions are translucent, about 6 minutes. Add roasted garlic and 26 raw garlic cloves and cook 3 minutes. Add vegetable broth; cover and simmer until garlic is very tender, about 20 minutes. Working in batches, puree soup in blender until smooth. Return soup to saucepan; add coconut milk and bring to simmer. Season with sea salt and pepper for flavour.
Squeeze juice of 1 lemon wedge into each bowl and serve.
Can be prepared 1 day ahead. Cover and refrigerate. Rewarm over medium heat, stirring occasionally
