What are you stuck on?

schneebly · 21/04/2008 22:58

all of it! Well maybe I am being a little melodramatic but there are certain parts like;

section 8 - give details of any children who will be totally or mainly financialy dependent on you during the academic year 2008/09

Do I put the kids down there? I mean DH works but his income is disclosed on the form. Do I only put the names of the children if i am supposed to be the main earner?

and is the amount of grant decided on household income before or after deductions because the form only askes for amuont after deductions?

also my course is part time but because it is an undergraduate teaching course and only 1 extra year I was told it will be funded as though it were full time but the form asks how many weeks I will be studying full time?

I think I need to go to bed!

They only want the details of now, when you are filling the form in. You put the children down here, it should be a joint thing as they take hubbies income into account. I am pretty sure it's household income after deductions. They don't fund part time! Ever. Get it in writing if this is what they have said. There is a seperate grant for part time students. The studying weeks is the number of weeks you are at Uni from the start to the end of the academic year.

Some universities will do a partial fee redemption if you are studying at least 50% of a FT course and are on certain benefits/below a level of income.... plus you can probably claim childcare costs from the university and possibly your LEA. Make friends with the Student Union and read every scrap of literature on student funding .

I was told that beceaus ethe coure is teacher training and because it is at least 75% of full time that I will be eligible - must double check with the university! I think it may be to do with having to do full time pacements in schools meaning that working at all during the day is impossible.

It's taken me the best part of a week keep going back to it hoping it'll make sence this time! I don't understand the income for children bit - why would children have income? Also - when it came to hubby's expenditure etc I did it monthly - should it be yearly? And that didn't take into account any nursey fees for sept onward? Its so confusing and feels like if its not right you can't go on course cuz no money to do it with! Does anyone know the answers to these? Do you get a chance to rectify things and explain what you've done to anyone in the hope of getting the correct funding?

avenanap · 22/04/2008 21:59

Remember that it's not specifically for you. Childrens income is maintenance from ex partners, interest on their bank accounts, stuff like this.

Hubby's expense: if it says per anum, it means per year. It will tell you on the top if it wants monthly, the last time I filled one of these in (I have done many!) it was per year. If hubby is childcare then this is an expense, normally the LEA pay this . You can go in and ask them for some help. The LEA that is .

Your children may have savings accounts that pays interest which would be classed as 'income' for them. Also relatives may pay your children an allowance which would also count. If you aren't sure what to fill in, then pop into the university if possible and ask to speak to an advisor in person (take things like your bank statements, mortgage/rent details and general household expenses). Put a covering letter in explaining anything you think you've done wrongly like a monthly income instead of yearly so they can extrapolate it out themselves.

(personal life a mess but completing my university welfare forms was literally my bread and butter in my student days )
