to think that taking your child (aged about 3) and his freeking scooter to the pub at 9pm is just frankly ANNOYING

Its my wedding anniversary.

Frankly its a bloody miracle I AM still married. DH and I go to local gastropub. everything is fine until around 9 pm Family-Horror come in... Mum, Dad, child aged 7 ish and horrorchild with a bloody scooter.....

The child + scooter proceed to wreck any peace in this previously peaceful eating place for adults. Child screams, yells and crashes for almost an HOUR before the pub staff have a word and whole family leave... ffs there is an attached tented area that is signed 'for families' GGGGRRRRRRRRRRR

Maybe it was their Wedding Anniversay too but they were let down by babysitter at last moment - bitterly disappointed but detirmined to put a brave face on it.

TsarChasm · 21/04/2008 22:50

But if there was a family area then problem solved...if they'd used it.

Tbh children in pubs during the day weeeel ok ..if they're quiet or it's obviously one of those fun pubs (cringe) but at night? No thanks, I agree with LT.

This I will never understand about western Europe culture.. bringing children into pubs?

I would never bring my 3.5 year old son into a pub - and certainly never at 9PM.. WTF are they thinkgin?

lemonstartree · 21/04/2008 22:55

I had a (very very rare) babysit from my PIL... i actually dont want to listen to another small child's tantrums in a adults place , having left my 3 at home.........

YANBU. i also thought it was illegal to have a small child in a pub that late.

you're in the pub at night to get away from children....IS NOWHERE SACRED???

avenanap · 22/04/2008 12:05

It depends on the conditions of their licence. I used to go to a pub with friends on Saturday nights and there were children running around until closing time.

I have no problem with children being out late - eating out whatever, so long as the child is well-behaved and not spoiling it for everyone else.

Also think yer English boozer is a very adult environment, watching folks get trollied is hardly appropriate.

chipmonkey · 22/04/2008 13:13

No, it's just in Ireland, Kerry.

OrmIrian · 22/04/2008 13:16

Child, no problem, with scooter probably not a good idea (I wouldn't have taken it). Unless there was loads of space and he kept away from other diners.

Personally other people's children don't bother me unless they are really really loud and whingey.

Kitti · 22/04/2008 16:57

YANBU. I have 3 kids and would never dream of taking them out on a school night or that young.

Greensleeves · 22/04/2008 16:59

Um, it's a public place. So you should have been prepared for the eventuality that some members of the public might be there. Next time, choose a venue that doesn't allow children in, if you don't want to have to put up with them. Or stay at home and order a takeaway.

Flum · 22/04/2008 17:02

I think up to about 9pm its cool, any later and its less cool.

We go to pub with ours sometimes until as late as 10 on Friday night. Treat for everyone. They usually start losing the plot by about 9 though.

Divastrop · 22/04/2008 17:08

even in our local 'fun' pub children have to be out by 9pm.plus,i would have thought there were safety issues around scooters in pubs.

small children have to be in bed by 7.30pm in my house, its the law.only exception would be on holiday(whatever one of them is?)
