I haven't worn make up in years, but starting a new job soon & fancy a more "put together" me - partially it's in the office rather than hybrid, I've also lost weight, and the lack of plumpness makes the lines show more. (NOT that I'm getting older is making the lines worse😅)

No problem with eye and lip makeup, that's been fun this weekend - but I haven't a clue about foundation, it's been so long since I've worn it.
Can anyone recommend a light foundation or BB cream that's works well for mature skin (I'm in my 60's but my skin in good, not overly dry), looks natural, lasts all day and doesn't cost a fortune?
Or AIBU and that's the holy grail that I'll never find that in a single pot?

Tinted moisturiser and tinted eye cream is the way forward with more mature skin, anything else I've tried settles in the fine lines and makes it all look worse

At the very least try mixing whatever foundation you're using now with day cream 50/50

I swapped to this a few years ago and really rate it. A tube lasts me the best part of a year. It goes on nicely with fingers, but even better with a foundation brush. They also do a more luminous version that might suit more mature skin (I'm early 40s).

I'd go to a department store and try a few different brands out and get some testers.

ThinWomansBrain · 29/09/2024 19:27

thanks, that looks good @Fuckitydoodah - I've googled it and they seem to have it in boots, I'll head for one of their larger branches so I can see the shades & try some testers.

I do the L’Oréal revilalift filler mixed with L’Oréal glotion.

I second the IT cosmetics one up thread, it’s great. I also love Erborian cc cream. Both great for more mature skin.

that's interesting - I had a facial a few months ago and the woman recommended using Hyaluronic Acid - it sounded a bit scary (the acid bit), but I'll take another look.

Charlotte Tillbury is very flattering make up imo.

Speedygonzales78 · 29/09/2024 20:16

I've just started using this one, if you go into a larger store they'll apply it for you and match your shade.

Charlotte Tilbury foundation is lovely, lasts all day and feels light on the skin.
Kosas foundation is really nice too.
L'Oréal also have some good ones for a more budget friendly option.

Ignore the acid bit, it's not a peel or anything like that. It's a sugar molecule and one that your body makes by itself. It's a great hydrator for the skin.
I use need in the loosest sense, but do you need foundation/ BB cream/ tinted moisturiser or is it that you feel you should be using it? I'm a big fan of the Erborian BB cream, for a recommendation though.

Trinny, her stuff is brilliant, start following her and she'll educate you on what's what. It's very well researched

Comedycook · 29/09/2024 21:13

I'm currently using Maybelline perfector 4 in 1 glow. It's very light and moisturising.

liquidsquidli · 29/09/2024 21:17

Erborian Cc is good

Juicyj1993 · 29/09/2024 21:30

Pixi H2O cream is brilliant, very light weight and just evens everything out.

ThinWomansBrain · 29/09/2024 22:24

thanks everyone, that's been really useful.
I'm off to the big Boots at Piccadilly with a list of what to try, and maybe Space NK or John Lewis for anything they don't stock. There's just such a huge selection it's difficult to know where to start when I've not worn make up for years.
The eye make up is mostly chunky matt crayons from E.L.F. and another brand called KVD.
@PinkArt having not worn make up for years, and wearing lipstick and playing with eye make up this weekend, even though that's been quite natural and light, nothing garish or overly bright, I'm concerned it looks a bit unjoined-up (and that's before my face loses the faintest blush of summer colour that's it's gained through the factor 30 and descends into winter whiteness🙄)

I hear you @ThinWomansBrain - I aspire to be one of those women who can pull of just a slash of bright lipstick but my skin has other ideas and needs a little bit of coverage. I thought it was worth asking in case you felt like it was something you should do for work, rather than something that works for you.
If you're after a blusher recommendation for a bit of glow, I just discovered Vieve sunset blush in cherub. It's not especially cheap but you need the tiniest amount for faking a lovely healthy looking glow.

StormingNorman · 30/09/2024 00:48

If you’re going to Space NK, you should try the Hourglass Hydrating Veil Tint. It’s a very light tinted moisturiser but looks quite polished with loose finishing powder over the top. The Kevyn Aucoin multicolour blushes are great too.

ThinWomansBrain · 30/09/2024 01:01

@PinkArt it's the pink cheeks I need to tone down 😁
It's actually quite funny realising I no longer have a fat round face - I was on online glasses sites recently where you take a photo and it displays the glasses on you. My face was mostly described as heart shaped - so narrowing at the bottom! - I'd not really noticed the change. I will need to look at blusher at some point - not mad contouring, but actual cheekbones to emphasise!!!
Maybe I need to wait until the weekend when I have some proper time and organise a make up demo - I recall doing one at a Liz Earle counter about fifteen years ago.

I would definitely invest in a good blush, as well. Wearing just foundation/tinted moisturizer can make you look a bit flat. A hint of colour on your checks is always a winner.

PinkArt · 30/09/2024 14:05

Ha, I forget that not everyone is ghost coloured! Something like the Vieve would probably suit you if you just want to add a tiny bit of something - any of the liquid ones would probably do similar and you can go as light or heavy as you want. I probably only use about a third of a grain of rice (stuck for a smaller measurement!) sized amount for a good flush of colour.

ThinWomansBrain · 30/09/2024 23:15

Well I have the hydraulic acid - well its actually hyaluronic acid that seems to do the same things. Now expecting lines to be completely gone in the morning
I've decided to make some time on Saturday for foundation & blusher - or tinted moisturiser or BB cream - so that I can take my time rather than rush it after work.
Click & collect is ready at Boots for tubing mascara and an allegedly last all day lip liner, so I can get that tomorrow.
