Is the GP wrong about my c-section?

Posting here for traffic as I am at loss what to do.

Had a second c-section 6 months ago. It was a traumatic birth due to hospital errors (long story!). However, c section occurred at 10cm dilated with baby nearly out. I had horrific pain along the c section line during the end of the pregnancy. I was told it was most likely due to pressure from baby pushing on the previous scar. While I was in labour, I could not describe the pain I was in. This was my third baby and I knew it was not normal.

recovery was going well (albeit slowly this time around). By 8 weeks I was pain free but a little tender. Suddenly 2 weeks ago I noticed a burning/throbbing pain along the scar line and directly above. This became almost like period pains. Noticed as well that the previously flat scar line was starting to feel lumpy in some places. Tried to ignore it and carry on. Woke up last week to a feeling of dampness around the stomach area. Checked myself with a mirror and there is a small hole in scar line and it’s leaking pus. It also appears there’s another hole opening nearby.

The pain has got a lot worse and now my stomach feels as if the c-section occurred 3-4 weeks ago. Went to the GP who thinks it’s overhang chaffing and the skin just might be irritated. However, I asked why am I having such bad cramps? He just reiterated the chaffing remark. He said I should continue with all my usual activities.

This is my second c-section so I know what recovery should look like. At this point with my first, I had completely forgotten I ever had a c section as there was no discomfort/pain.

He gave me an antibiotic cream. So far I now feel unable to do any heavy lifting or pick up the kids. It feels like I’m being torn internally and the pain is getting worse. I am not sure what to do? Would I be unreasonable to ask for a different doctor?

Sounds like when my c-section scar herniated internally. I had to ask the direct question, and then referred for a scan

You are right, pain at this stage is not normal in c section recovery (I’ve had 4). I would go back to the gp.

I’m a surgeon. Not normal . From
the description you should be seen in an O and G urgent clinic slot with same visit ultrasound scan . There may be a collection / infected haematoma to drain . I also think you need oral antibiotics not just ointment/ cream.

Just book another appointment and ask for it to be with a different doctor.

Then you can say you tried Dr 1's advice and it didn't work. Plus show anything that has got worse since.

Nobody minds anymore about you always seeing the same person.

Hey op I’m not a medical expert but you sound very warranted in seeking a second opinion!!

i had a different situation (swollen infected wound 6 weeks in) but i was fobbed off for a few weeks that it was totally normal! I was really patronised to be honest even if it wasn’t intentional. Until it became obvious it wasn’t. stitches hadn’t dissolved and were messing up the healing.

is it worth calling 111? The suggestion above re o&g sounds good obviously!!
otherwise an emergency appointment with your gp or any walk in near you tomorrow?

if you start feeling unwell or off or strange yourself, it is worth seeking v urgent medical attention (hopefully obvious) in case infection.

good luck and so sorry you’re going through this.
