Halloween is traditionally the time when the veil is thin between this world and the spirit world. So the supernatural - ghosts, witches, skeletons. It's linked to the Celtic new year, Samhain. In the Christian calendar it's the night (or e'en) before All Saints Day on 1st Nov and All Souls Day on 2nd Nov, when prayers were said for the deceased.

It has absolutely nothing to do with chainsaw massacres or psychos in motels murdering naked women in showers.

I have to admit I'm not overly keen on the way Halloween has veered off into serial killers and mass murder. It was all ghosties and ghoulies and a few skeletons when I was growing up. Yes, the theme was dead things and there were creepy stories about their untimely demise, but not this out and out thirst for gore. Little kids are running around with costumes depicting characters from 18 rated horror films that involve torture and murder. Some of them are dressed as real life serial killers. I'm afraid I'm a little bit pearl clutching about this - and not much bothers me.

I saw Camel Balls at the post office earlier. Huge great testes hanging off a camel on the packet. My 7 year old thought it was hilarious!

If you let your children have any involvement in Halloween you can’t really be upset by this.

Must keep an eye out for those! Gdcs would find them hilarious, too!
