...to insist dh lets me wash kit after swimming?

DH takes dd swimming in a public pool once every few weeks or so. If it were up to him, he would not wash their costumes and towels afterwards every time. He says it is not "environmentally friendly". He would rather dry them out on a radiator and then wash every few visits or so.

The very idea makes me break out in a cold sweat. AIBU?

The children go swimming quite a bit in the summer and if I washed it every time it wouldn't be dry for the next day, so I tend to wash it all every other time.

Oh God no, that is mad, the only thing that gets washed after one use is my pants, anything else is getting silly imo.

lollipopmother · 23/04/2008 12:29

Oh and socks of course unless they are my slipper-sock thingies which I just class as pj's.

Same here, swim suits get washed on us in the shower, then rinsed through with clean water at home. Towels get washed every few swims, but not if dd was to drop hers on the floor! I would never wash bath towels every day (isn't that just hotels?), I'd be washing forever, I do our bath towels about once a week. Virtually all of dd's clothes get washed after one wear though but thats because they usually get food/paint/mud on them (she's 2.11), exceptions are jumpers, coats and PJ's!

Ooh, I'm intrigued by how this is turning into a discussion about how dirty we all are...

I used to work somewhere where the cleaner said she, her son and her uncle (who lived with them) would all shower in the morning and used 2 clean towels each (hair and body) which then all went in the wash. All then went to work/school in complete fresh set of clothes. On coming home they each had another shower with 2 clean towels each, put on a change of clothes (clean set each of course), and at bedtime those clothes also went in the wash basket. So that's 12 towels and 6 full sets of clothes to wash every day!

I always rinse everything in a quick wash in the machine with no detergent. Gets the chlorine and wee out.

marmadukescarlet · 23/04/2008 19:10

Swimming stuff nothing, when DH and I first lived together he went to the gym everyday.

He then went to his office and dried the stinky wet (he sweats quite a bit) shorts and tshirt on the rad and wore the same lot all week! I bet the gym emptied as he arrived by Thursday.

I took me months to break him of the habit.

urgh even after a boil wash it still smelt horrid.

jellyshoeswithdiamonds · 25/04/2008 18:55

If you don't wash the cosies in the washing machine with detergent, they still smell of chlorine, that means chlorine in on the material to eat it away, whether you have a good quality cosie or not (I have good sports ones DD has fashion ones, DH and DS have designer swim shorts) and that means the chlorine smell is then in with all your other clothes in your wardrobes (or whetherever you store your cosies).

Same with the towels, unless they are washed, when they are dried, the smell is still there.

Daisy ~ more than one cosie each would solve that problem

marma ~ That is just minging!

i rinse my costume properly every time. and i take it off before showering because the shampoo also rots it. i wash the towel every other swim (twice at week atm)
