To think a Yr2 child should be allowed to go to the toilet when they need to?

DD who is just 7 asked one of the TAs in the playground today if she could go into the loo. She was asked if she could wait as it was "only 5 minutes till the end of break". She told the TA that she couldn't wait and was told "you'll have to". She then pooed in her knickers.

Obviously she is really upset and embarrassed, didn't tell anyone and cleaned herself up as best as she could. I'm annoyed that she was told she couldn't go even when she said she was desperate.

YANBU. Have a word with the school.

YANBU - I thought one of the points of playtime was to go to the toilet. I would complain to the Head about this as it seems to me like the TA was having abit of a lazy day and 'tis not fair on the kids.

YANBU. I'm a primary teacher and its true we do encourage children to go at "appropriate" times, and I often say, "Can you wait or are you desperate?" making it quite clear that they need to say if its an emergency. If a child says its urgent I would NEVER stop them going because the results are always an accident.

Children should be allowed to go to the toilet at playtimes. The TA is wrong to refuse. Children sometimes are asked to wait during lessons eg. five minutes until end of lesson. However they are normally expected to go at playtime. This is the time to go.

How awful for your dd. YANBU I would have a discreet word with the school.

I remember only too well this happening to me when I was six - being told I had to wait as the door into school was locked and susequently weeing in my knickers and having to confess and make a visit to the spare knicker cupboard. I'm 36 now and still remember the humiliation (I've moved on tho lol). Your poor dd - I would complain tbh

YANBU. Do talk to the head. I was also an infant teacher and was same as theapprentice - you can tell if they are really desperate. Your poor dd.

I agree you should speak to the school, but also check that what she told you is what really happened, she might have misheard the TA for example. Best to check.

Agree with last post

YANBU.
I'd be really angry with the school. Speak to them but try to be calm, it tends to work better than being angry.
FWIW, I think kids should be allowed to go to the loo whenever, you can at work, you can at college, yet kids with smaller bladders and less chance of hanging on are not allowed?
Utter bollocks

YANBU

I would be really angry if that happened to my dc

There is no need to make a child wait for the toilet.
WELL OUT OF ORDER.
Tell the teacher 2morrow that it is not on
