Half my tooth just fell out

Half of my back tooth just fell out. I was waiting to see the dentist at the end of the month due to possible infection in the tooth. I’m so scared and feel physically sick. What if the infection spreads round my body? I feel in an out of body experience

I'm not a dentist but maybe swilling your mouth with warm water and salt might help? But probably best to wait for a more knowledgeable person.

That sounds terrible!
Can you see a dentist sooner?

TomatoSandwiches · 25/09/2024 20:07

Phone tomorrow morning to see if they can book an emergency appointment, if you think it was infected it could spread now and you may need antibiotics.
I hope you see someone soon, sounds horrid.

Thanks. I’ll call in the morning. I am quite annoyed tbh as I went for an emergency dental appointment there about a month or so ago and was fobbed off by the dentist saying it was wisdom tooth pain. When in fact it was because of this tooth that has now fallen out

I had similar situation, turned out it was a cracked tooth, then half came out whilst eating an almond. 🙄
My dentist managed to fashion a filling for it. Did say that if it didn't stay it would need a crown. So far so good.

I had the same happen a few months ago - it had been delicate for a while but a piece of toast (of all things) made it half fall out one morning before work. I was lucky - I called the dentist, first thing, got an emergency appointment and insisted on having it pulled out. 15 minutes in the chair, back to work within the hour.

Clean after every meal and rinse with daily corsodyl morning and evening, then proper corsodyl a couple of times a week. If the tooth can't be saved they'll offer a crown.
The infection isn't going to spread around your body. Just get an appointment asap.

It happens. Don’t panic.

See if you can get an emergency appointment.

See if they can book you in like everyone says, but in a similar vein, about 6 months ago my back tooth cracked in half too. I popped it back in (it would kinda click into place) and my dentist said it was my wonky wisdom tooth causing the problem (we'd been keeping an eye on it in the hopes it wouldn't have to be removed). It was a few months of throbbing ache before my appointment came round to sort it, but I'm a week out of having the wisdom tooth removed (painless while it was done, but I've spent a week feeling like I've been kicked in the face and taking painkillers to stop myself waking in the middle of the night from it)

So it might not be an infection (which I would have thought would progress faster anyway) and just be something like mine

They can’t see me until Monday unfortunately. Feels so uncomfortable

I've been there, it's horrible isn't it? Completely surreal to just spit out a piece of your tooth, there's a reason it's such a common anxiety nightmare!

Swish with lukewarm salty water to keep it clean, get on with the dentist to move your appt up asap. If they make you wait a few days (also been there, dentistry in this country is broken!) you can get something called Dentek temparin max on Amazon to temporarily patch the damaged area. It'll hold for a few days and keep it covered, then the dentist can just clean it away.
