To keep applying for jobs until I’ve accepted an offer?

Do you keep applying for jobs right up until you’ve actually accepted an offer? And do you even continue applying after getting an offer, just in case something better comes along? I’ve noticed some people do this and have come across colleagues who only been in their roles for a few days or weeks before leaving for another opportunity.

What do you think? Is it smart to keep options open, or does it seem untrustworthy?

I'd continue applying at least until I had an offer.

You keep applying for roles until you have a signed contract. At that point you have committed to work for someone so I can't see any reason to continue to apply for more.

I had an issue last time. I was out for 7 months (during covid), interviewed for dozens of jobs, accepted one with the DWP, and then the day I started, came home to a far better job offer on twice the money.

I went in and resigned next day. They completely understood. 😀 but I didn't know that was going to happen.

I wonder how you would have felt if you'd gone in on your first day & been told they were terminating you because they found someone far better to do it for half the money?

@ILikeItWhatIsIt I know. But they could have done, their contract allowed it.

And better to say something immediately than waste their time and training, only to leave at a later date.

What would you do then, say awwww look at this amazing job offer on double the money but I'm going to turn it down because Sally my boss (of 1 day) will get cross with me and I'll really hurt her feelings. Yeah we all know it doesn't work like that.

I think you did the right thing, not ideal but you’d forever regret not taking the better job. All for what? A job you’ve been at for a day!
