To think John Lewes letting males into bra fitting rooms means no females can 100% privately / safely / with dignity use them?

Staff aren't allowed to speak out, females aren't safe - my daughter, 14, really DOES need to go have a fitting, but I can't possibly let her got to John Lewes in case there is a male in there ogling her!

John Lewis 'allows trans men into bra-fitting rooms' as gender row hits retailer

The high street giant – famed for its Christmas ads and 'Never Knowingly Undersold' catchphrase – is accused of putting female staff and customers at risk in order to 'demonstrate their 'woke' credentials to a minority of the population'

The headline is misleading which makes the story confusing but it does demonstrate why clear, unambiguous language is important.

Transmen are female.

The concern is about "trans identified men" or transwomen who are male.

No one should support men being in bra fitting rooms although a few years ago M&S did employed a trans identified man (male) as an actual bra fitter.

RoseAndRose · 25/09/2024 10:52

I don't see how anyone would be ogled in the bra department fitting rooms. They are lockable individual cubicles.

poppyzbrite4 · 25/09/2024 10:54

It's not just bra fitting, it's women's toilets and locker rooms. Men who identify as women have untrammeled access to all their spaces. John Lewis mistakenly believe this is the law.

Perhaps a MN campaign to raise awareness on the single sex exemptions in the Equality Act.

Excelent idea

So this is women identifying as men, haven’t had top surgery so still need a bra. Not the same as trans women who are still male below the stairs.

I think the entire issue is Males in Female spaces TBH

No. It's men saying they are women. No one minds women saying they are men coming in to our changing rooms - they are women.

No one can change sex. Ever. Doesn't matter which bits get chopped or mutilated.

It’s says trans men on the link which I thought was woman to man. Oh well it’s all confusing to me but I’m not going down that road again after yesterdays thread.

its as if the words and terms are deliberately garbled so men can get access to womens spaces and have a wank. I don't think that s too much to say.

John Lewis has clearly lost its core values and commitment to customer service. They no longer put the customer first, which is disappointing from a brand that was once trusted for its reliability and care. My advice would be to shop elsewhere until meaningful changes are made.

Other department stores are thriving at the moment because they actively listen to customers, honour warranties, and regularly introduce new fashion lines and product ranges. In contrast, John Lewis seems to be falling behind, and practices such as not protecting its females in stores in public spaces, deleting negative product reviews, and not honouring warranties raise serious concerns about transparency and customer care.

It’s unfortunate to see a once-respected retailer become a victim of complacency. For those who value customer service, honesty, and innovation, there are now better options elsewhere.

Trans men are born female

tilypu · 04/09/2025 14:33

The article is completely unclear.

It starts by saying trans men - which are biologically female - but then talks about trans women.

I would want to check the actual facts before getting in a tizzy about this

Mummy3451 · 04/09/2025 15:45

Seems John Lewis are in the tizzy. They had more resignations than Labour. Chairs, Directors and recently…

An employee at John Lewis Cheadle branch, Lesley Pickup, recently resigned, citing concerns over the new unisex changing rooms and toilets. In her resignation letter, she said these changes compromised the safety and privacy of female staff and customers, leaving women feeling vulnerable and unable to express their discomfort without fear of being labeled transphobic.

Her letter has been shared widely on social media and sparked conversations about the balance between inclusivity and women’s rights in workplaces and public spaces. John Lewis, known for its employee-owned model, now faces scrutiny over its policies, and the debate shows no signs of slowing down.

How is staff morale supposed to survive when women feel unsafe in the very spaces they’re meant to manage?

One has to wonder if John Lewis is more focused on being ‘woke’ than actually listening to their staff and customers or their core female customer base. Enough is enough.

Have you seen the refugees sleeping rough outside John Lewis stores on Oxford Street? Turning one of the UK’s busiest shopping districts into an unintended shelter. The very streets outside their flagship store are becoming a refuge for those with nowhere else to go. Are the bathrooms for them too?

Perhaps it’s time for the company to focus on inclusivity in a more practical sense, by addressing the homelessness crisis on their doorstep and responding to customer enquiries from a UK office, not abroad.

How do you know the rough sleepers are refugees?

thelovelyview · 06/09/2025 17:55

Why this talk of “females” on mn these days. Is it a bot which has not heard of women?

If you mean Trans men then these are biological women.
Unlike the male staff member in a mini skirt who approached me and teen DD in JL once near the underwear dept and asked if we needed any help

JHound · 08/09/2025 13:07

It does not say refugees in that article.

Contemporaneouslyagog · 08/09/2025 13:12

as a result of the M and S and John Lewis trans policy, I bought my new bra from an independent shop, would 100% recommend .
