AIBU To be worried about co2?

We have just moved into a new rental and the carbon monoxide alarm has randomly gone off a couple of times.
I messaged the landlord earlier who seemed to think it would just need new batteries, it had a gas inspection quite recently.
Am I being paranoid that there is a co2 leak, it beeped a while ago while making dinner and hasn't gone off again. If there was a co2 leak would it be constantly going off? And what are the chances after recent gas inspection?

Can anyone advise?

Does the CO detector give a number reading? Is there
a display screen?

MereDintofPandiculation · 24/09/2024 21:48

Have you checked the batteries?

For future reference CO2 is carbon dioxide. Carbon monoxide is CO.

No there is just two lights, one says power and one says co2.
we're not staying overnight atm so I think I'll put new batteries in tomorrow and see if that solves it. It was going off intermittently and Google suggests that's low battery

Look at the instructions for your alarm (or google the make of your carbon monoxide alarm to find an online one) to see whether it is one that beeps when the batteries are low and if the beeps you are hearing are that, a unit malfunction or it alarming for real (I'd expect different beeps or frequency of beeps for CO detection versus needing a new battery).

Also have a look at the symptoms of CO exposure to see if you or anyone in your house is experiencing those. You can also google to see for things to look out for around a faulty gas appliance or woodburner.

Don't ignore a CO alarm. If it's going off then it's an emergency.
Is the alarm going off (like a smoke detector ) or beeping intermittently ? (this could indicate a low battery).

If it's actually going off then do not ignore it. CO is known as a silent killer and the detector is your only warning. Stay out of the property until the landlord has had it checked.

Carbon monoxide is CO, not CO2. That's carbon dioxide.

This.

Was the boiler or cooker or anything on at the time? You should call Cadent to get things checked out really if the alarm is going off. Open the windows and doors if you do go around tomorrow

Yeah we all feel fine and had been in the property all day cleaning, building furniture etc
i can't find the manual or the type of alarm online, I had a search earlier
as I say we're not there tonight so will properly sort tomorrow, and I realise I called it CO2 by accident!!
