To worry about losing words and phrases?

I had hormones checked as part of blood tests and was told I'm nowhere near menopause. That was 6m ago. I'm 45 and have noticed in recent months that I'm finding it hard to grab v basic words and finding it hard to finish phrases eg 'living life on the ...... 40 seconds later... the edge' Also have tripped on surnames of one or two, I don't know them well but I do know their full names, if that makes sense.

Is this menopause coming or could it be more sinister? A bit frightened and hoping for reassurance.

I'm 47 and on HRT. got referred to the memory clinic and they did a scan which showed some early brain atrophy, it is mild but they are saying out of proportion for her age, so I'm worried. Also have a family history of dementia and been tested for the APOE4 gene.

So, I guess get it checked out if it is worrying you.

I'm sorry to hear that and I'm sure it is frightening. I hope you continue to be well for a long time.

I agree with pp that reading etc doesn't necessarily help. I read widely, have always used a wide vocabulary but when I can't remember the word 'harm', well, that seems v different. Anyway I have been taking my b12 and will keep an eye carefully.

Mine was folate deficiency and I’ve done a couple of courses of prescription strength supplements and it was a huge improvement. Am taking a whacking b complex supplement now.

I'm strangely very relieved to read this thread. I'm also academic & read widely & a lot & have an excellent vocabulary. But over the past couple of months I've noticed I'm forgetting very basic works sometimes. I'm 53 .
The other morning I was talking to my dh & dd in the car and could not get the word 'maturity' & I have to admit it did frighten me.

I think I'll get my bloods done & check for any deficiencies.

It has reassured me that others, of a similar age are also experiencing this!

I'm 55, I've had phases of this in the past 4 years. It does come and go, so it's not a permanent loss. It's worse when I'm stressed, possibly.

Reading widely makes zero difference, I read a lot, always have. It's a very sudden blank, worse when speaking than when writing, though it does happen when I write as well.
