Do I respond to the Christmas party message?

I have only just started a new job and on Friday a message was put out about the Christmas party. We were asked to comment if we were going to be attending. I’m still on probation and I’ll be told just before Christmas if I’m ok to stay at the workplace so I’m not sure if to respond to the Christmas party message as obviously it depends if I pass probation?!

I'd just reply and say that you're going (if you want to) if you don't pass probation, you can cross that bridge when you come to it.

If you'd like to go then I'd respond going. I've never not passed probation in any job though so it's not something I'd worry about.

Is there not someone you can ask in the workplace? Manager? Just explain you've got this message but not sure how or if to respond.

Mindymomo · 24/09/2024 09:39

It asks you to respond, so I would say yes. If you don’t pass probation, then it’s not your fault if you cannot go.

I have never not passed either in previous roles but it’s just a thought as I have anxiety so I always worry about it

Honestly, I wouldn’t bother my manager with this. I’d just reply saying ‘yes, looking forward to it’.

If for some reason you didn’t pass probation then you just wouldn’t go (and would probably have bigger things to worry about!) but I’m sure you will.

Georgie743 · 24/09/2024 09:41

If you want to go and are planning on going all being well, say yes.

Obviously nobody would expect somebody who had since left the company to attend. I assume they are just looking for numbers.

I also think you are right to acknowledge your status; it shows you are taking it seriously and not presumptuous. I’d be inclined to ask what they prefer- to say yes now or answer when you know where you stand for sure. ETA I’d ask the person doing rsvp numbers, not your manager.

Just say yes. You are massively over-thinking this one and will confuse or irritate by wittering on about your probation to someone who ia sorting out the party.

Agreed. I arrange our company party, I'd be bemused if someone brought their probation into it. The vast majority of people get through probation.
