Happening to anyone else?
Keep getting calls from electric company asking if we want a smart meter.
How to get rid?
Are they on commission or something?
It's like harrassment!
No is a complete word.
Am I alone?🙄😫

The south half of the UK uses the mobile phone network. The customer doesn't have to have anything at all.

I am in the south of England. I repeat, there is no mobile signal here on any network.

I read an article in the Guardian last week which stated that nearly 4 million smart meters are malfunctioning in the UK but energy companies are prioritising installations rather than fixing the faulty smart meters.

This is true Martin Kewis covered it. They have a target of rolling them out to meet but don’t have any target yo nahe sure they are actually working. I know someone who lost power to her home for two days due to a botched installation. My friend also had to wait 8 months for her credit balance to be re-applied despite calling weekly.

Reading my meter and popping that number on an app is so easy.

Finally received an answer from Octopus which answered my questions. In the meantime they had texted me, so I replied stating that unless they answered my reasonable questions, I would revoke my permission for them to have my mobile phone number, and would pursue them for harassment if they continued to text.

If you do not have a mobile phone signal, the meter can be set to be installed without a communications hub. I will still have to give the readings every month. Apparently I can choose this option. It will still give me 7 hours of cheap rate electricity.
