Morning folks,

my brother (43 years old) has been through done financially tough times recently.
mum offered to help him by allowing him to open up a couple of credit cards in her name. He uses the cards and pays directly from his bank with no cost to mum. My worry is that these cards are maxed out now.
I’ve spoke to mum and she says that she’s not worried as he always pays. She views it as her debt in name only.
is this an example of financial abuse?

The credit card companies won’t be happy and unless it is written in the will then the debt will be paid and then money released for inheritance and depending on care needs then there might not be enough to cover it.

she needs to stop opening credit cards. He won’t get a good credit history without building up his own credit.

what if you decided to be bad with money? Would she open a credit card for you? What happens if brother dies? Mum is left with the debt and maybe needs to sell home to pay it off.

tell your brother not to open any more as it’s basically fraud
