It was something tiny but has stuck with me and I appreciated it so much. I was getting a coffee from a machine at a service station midway through a long journey with my 3 very bored kids. Briefly chatted to the man using the machine next to me. When I went up to pay the cashier told me the man had paid for my coffee when he bought his. It was such a small gesture but I appreciated it so much, I think particularly as my husband (now ex husband) wouldn't even buy me a coffee when we went out together.

One day, whilst driving home from a shopping centre about an hour away from where I live, I got utterly confused by an insane amount of roadworks, diversions and standstill traffic. Cars were beeping and it was chaos. In sheer panic, I realised I had gone round a roundabout (which didnt exist the previous time I had driven there) the wrong way round. The cars were moving at less than five miles an hour, so there was not a risk of a high speed collision, but I was so frightened. A man in a taxi saw my sheer panic, wound his window down, told me where to stop safely, and when to drive off. I was so grateful to him, Ive never forgotten it, especially when I probably deserved to be shouted at!

When I was an extremely poor student nurse doing my community placement, and I was literally eating one meal a day, I used to pretend I was on a diet to explain not eating at lunchtime. A social worker who shared the office (and was in no way responsible for me) brought extra sandwiches for me every day.

I’ve got stage 4 incurable cancer. My young adult daughter is obsessed with Taylor Swift and bought a ticket to see her on the other side of the world. For my birthday she gave me a concert ticket, and had paid for a plane ticket and accommodation, so I could go with her. I cried then and I’m crying now. It was such a special thing for us to do together.

I have had various acts of kindness. When young and single and out with a friend we met some French lads and spoke in French all night. They came for coffee ( no more!) and the following day sent me flowers with a note thanking me for conversing in French - very sweet.

One of my acts was to wash blood out of my friends hair after her CVP line inserted and cancer surgery and left with it for 2 days matted.

I lost my phone / cards / cash ect at the top of Congo in a river on a solo travel to see the gorillas
No one knew I was home and I didn't want them to after 3 months of travel and 3 days of flights / buses etc .... my feet were like pigs trotters and I stank. Just wanted to sleep.
He popped to the door with no agenda and left me a charged up phone / £100 cash / a credit card / flowers / card / fresh bread milk cheese etc and a bottle of wine with a glass poured on the step !
He didn't stop because I'd asked him not to and I hadn't seen him the whole time !
Love that man x
