With only 100 days left of the year, what’s been your highlight of 2024?

I just realised there are only 100 days left in the year, and it made me reflect on what stood out for me in 2024. Whether it’s something big like a life milestone, an amazing trip, or something small but meaningful, I’d love to hear what moments have defined your year so far.

AIBU to ask what’s been your highlight of 2024?

I survived bilateral pulmonary embolisms.

My first abroad holiday in nine years, which was my first time in Spain and Gibraltar.

Getting engaged, and subsequently planning a wedding.

I completed my degree which I started with the OU in 2008.

I've had so many health issues (both mental and physical) in that time as well as raising a family, becoming a single parent and then meeting my now DH, plus moving house twice. The baby I had when I started my degree is now a teenager who has left school for a college course after being diagnosed with anxiety and autism. My life has changed so many times since then.

But despite it all I went back to my studies a few years ago, with encouragement from DH. I had an awful tutor a couple of years ago and I nearly gave up, I'm glad I didn't but at that point I was positive I wouldn't get anything more than scraping a Third.

I'm graduating next month with a 2:1 Honours degree and I even got a distinction on my last course. I still can't believe it. My mental health struggles caused me to drop out of brick and mortar unis twice before I had my kids, but I can now, at 43 years old, say I have a degree.

It's been a year of extreme highs and extreme lows but the highlight was getting married in May, it was absolutely perfect and I'm still on a bit of a high from it 😊

That I'm alive and really well following a massive stemi heart attack 12 weeks ago!

Another year cancer free. Doing a really rewarding voluntary role that makes a difference to children. Having some fantastic times with my SEN son while he still loves doing things with me.

2023 was better.

Getting a new hip

My holiday - was very relaxing, just a UK caravan one.

We've had a rough 3/4 years with cancer and bereavement in the family so it was a quiet pause.

Spongebobcircletop · 23/09/2024 07:01

Watching my DS get a trophy for a team sport he plays. 8 years ago when I sat reading the report which detailed his asd and his poor social skills and poor Co ordination, I didn't think this would be possible.

After a cancer diagnosis last December, surgery in January and the all clear in February.

Finally achieving a New Year’s resolution and starting open water swimming. Even conquered my fear of being in open water in the dark.

I've had a particularly shitty year but had a lovely holiday in June, the highlight, and a memory that will stick around for years was going to Antelope Canyon in Arizona and seeing the gorgeous light effects in person.
