To think of missing work due to scan results?

Having lots of gallbladder problems recently. Got my scan results today, Sunday which I didn’t expect.
so now need to go back to GP with them. Scan showed two small polyps, but it threw me as I didn’t expect that. I thought maybe stones. I have symptoms like pain, bowel changes etc. AIBU to make an appointment in the morning during work hours? I was really upset earlier even though it may be nothing. Would you get the appointment, or go to work with it on your mind?

I would not take the day off because we need to submit econsults and hope the doctor deemed us worthy of an appointment which will usually be a week or so later. Waste of a day off. Save it for when you actually need it, unless you have a GP with appointments just waiting to be filled on Monday mornings.

To all saying GP has the result- they’ve no idea. I self-referred for the scan- now I take results to my GP.

Then why are you speaking to your GP about it? Speak to the clinician where your scan was arranged and ask them what action you should take (if any).

No drama needed. Ring the dr this morning and just ask for the earliest appointment. They may even offer you a phone one

It's not possible for me to visit the doctor without taking time off so I would just take the earliest possible appointment and get it done

it doesn’t work like that ……op won’t have a private clinician……when you have a scan….the results are emailed to you …..then you can either pay to discuss the results with a random private gp……or take them to your own gp to discuss( which is the cheaper option)

I had several private scans and they always offered me a private GP appointment after to discuss results. I also had an appointment with a private consultant who wrote to my GP herself.

… OP maybe didn’t have that …not everyone can afford that or has private insurance…..my DD ( and many people like her) just had a scan which was far cheaper at a few hundred pounds…..a further private gp appointment to discuss was offered……but would have been £50 …..so it was a no brainer for her to just get a regular go appoint, ent and they went thru it all with her…..no consultant was involved at any time…..her own gp then referred of the back of the private scan…… guessing you have private insurance or have sufficient funds that you can afford the consultant fees…. Not everyone can

Take sufficient time during the day to go to your GP appointment, explain your manager that it may take time. Can you take half day off? If you feel you need to take the full day off explain to the manager you have medical appointments that day that take time, take a sick day. Health comes first! If you go to work worried you risk making mistakes etc ( don't know what you do but would apply to most jobs). Surely people understand !

Yes, make rhe appointment. With the waiting lists for any procedures that might be necessary it's always best to move as quickly as possible. And if it puts your mind at rest a bit as well that's an added bonus.

whowhatwerewhy · 23/09/2024 08:58

No I would not take the day off. I would ring my GP for an appointment and take it from there.

Commonsense22 · 23/09/2024 09:02

You won't work well if you are preoccupied. By all means go to the doctors. What is your type of workplace?

Brieonlybrie · 23/09/2024 09:14

I would ring the GP and make an appointment. I wouldn't waste a day's annual leave on that one and you clearly aren't too ill to work so throwing a sickie would not be reasonable either. Just get an appointment booked in asap
