I might choose the Louvre and see everything at my own pace, without the crowds.
What about you?

The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam (for culture).
Le Fumoir bar in Claridge's (for drinks).

Changeyourfuckingcar · 21/09/2024 17:57

From the title, I thought pub/drinking establishment too, so my answer to that is Scott’s brewery in oamaru NZ. Spent many happy hours there back in the day.
Anywhere else though… great question. Maybe a museum of some kind? It’s so hard to choose. Child me is screaming ‘the donkey sanctuary’ in my head 😂

Victoriawould24 · 21/09/2024 17:57

I've been influenced by app so can only think of shops and museums now so I'll say Liberty.

But I'd also very happily spend a night in an Irish bar in a remote village with music, dancing, singing drink and stories flowing all night.
*Maybe even a donkey

*pp not app

Oh Windsor Castle because I’d love to be able to see Queen Mary’s dolls house fully. My DH’s uncle worked for the company that supplied the glasses.

The V& A because it’s just wonderful.

House of Lords and finish what Guy Fawkes started.

evtheria · 21/09/2024 18:09

The botanical domes at Singapore's gardens by the bay (or the Eden one in Cornwall, though I haven't been to that yet)

Or

One of the ancient temples in Egypt eg Karnak, Luxor

A big branch of John Lewis

One year when it snowed some people got stuck in our local John Lewis. They stayed the night in the beds & were allowed to take the bedding home with them the next day. I often think of jumping in the car & driving there when it snows 😂

The Natural History Museum. No irritating schoolchildren - bliss!

@DoreenonTill8 Loads of cinemas are doing 20 year anniversary big screen screenings. On the schedules now. 😁

I spend a lot of time at NHM early morning for work, and can confirm it's bliss when it's empty, dark and quiet. Think I'd go for Selfridges though. Try on amazing clothes, eat amazing food, use all the beauty products etc

JMSA · 21/09/2024 20:00

I love your ideas. Being snowed in at John Lewis sounds divine!
I'd take all the samples the beauty department could offer.

Hampton Court Palace, I would love to spend time there without other people getting in the way, exploring all the bits that aren't open to the public.

Harrods would be fun as long as I had unlimited access to the food hall.

Please may I join you, it would be a fun night.

PermanentTemporary · 21/09/2024 20:32

The Vatican Museums. Imagine being in that corridor with all the huge maps as the sun comes up.

Waterstones Piccadilly. They also have a cafe and toilets and comfy seating.

The secret vaults in the Vatican . I am not religious, but think it would be fascinating to see what is hidden in there .

WhatHaveIFound · 21/09/2024 21:45

I'd go for Selfridges for the food and to try on all the clothes I can't afford. Or an art gallery with sculptures I could touch.

I've worked in Madame Tussauds after hours and it was quite spooky.

Hever Castle.

I stayed at Hever Castle a month ago. You can't go in the Castle after it's shut but your free to walk around the grounds. We had a picnic in the grounds rather than walk to the pub nearby.

Plus you can get in the Castle immediately on opening (included in the accommodation price for both days) so you can be pretty much alone in there for a while.

My sis and I shared a fabulous room, cost £107.50 each, including full breakfast next day.

Totally recommend.

Foyles, Charing Cross Road.

One night won't be enough 😂 Genuinely this would be mine too.
