Abnormal ECG - help!

Hi,
Sorry, I didn't know what board to post this on, and I was hoping someone with a cardiac/medical background could help me.

Abnormal ECG - It shows as Anteroseptal Infarct - Old.
Does this mean a heart attack has definitely happened in the past if it correlates with the symptoms and medical history?
How accurate are ECGs?
Will the ECG be repeated to make sure, or is this enough to confirm a past event?

Thanks in advance for any advice

What's the context? If it's just printed at the top of an ECG you've seen then it's just the computer interpretation which is notoriously unreliable/completely disregarded when you interpret it.

Thanks for replying. I am not sure how much context to give without outing!

BNP/Trop = raised (in A&E)
A stress test last month = showed ischemia
ECG was done in a cardiac diagnostic clinic before a cardiac procedure.

So, would this ECG be ignored or used in this context?

Not necessarily! I had an abnormal ecg which said the same. The GP did two follow up ecgs and both showed the same abnormality so I was referred for an echocardiogram. I was delighted to discover that not only had I categorically NOT had a heart attack, but that my heart was unusually healthy for a woman of my age.

That's really great to hear LoserWinner - you must've been so relieved!

And is it that you've just seen the ECG in your records?

It sounds like you're under the right team to be investigating.
Ultimately it's the Drs review/notes on the ECG that is meaningful, so if the Drs written it on the ECG or your report then id ask them to explain what this means for you at your next appointment.

If the Dr said it was a normal ECG but the automated interpreter that prints on is where the infarct message was only then id believe the Dr over the computer.

Thank you, that makes sense.
We haven't spoken to the Drs yet (long story) but will do soon.

ECGs come out saying all sorts from the machine, we don't trust them unless we see it ourselves in context and the patient in front of us, if you've just seen it printed on your ECG I would wait for a medical professional to explain things, could be nothing x

You bet! Between the ecg and the echocardiogram, I updated my will, got rid of a lot of junk and prepared my adult kids for bad news.
