To find the job application and interview process tedious?

I’ve been going through the job application and interview process recently and I find it incredibly tedious. From crafting tailored resumes to preparing for interviews and waiting for responses, it all feels like a lot of repetitive work.

Usually, I get jobs pretty quickly - 1-2 interviews max - but it seems like the market has been really tough this past year. I understand that it’s a necessary part of finding a job, but I can’t help but feel exhausted by the whole process.

AIBU to feel this way, or is this a common sentiment among others going through job searches?

to be honest i wish it was just a basic here is the cv for the role, rather than hours for an application only for x company to read and go next so to speak, it seems quite inefficient process

Use chat gpt then tweak where needed.

and ask it to write the answers in the style of eg a intelligence officer or office admin etc as then it gives a more base line human response

What is even worse than the tediously long application process is the fact so many companies won't give a clue about roughly what salary they are offering.
It's obnoxious and such a waste of time

Milkandacookie · 04/10/2024 02:32

I'm finding this so much harder than it should be. I'm reasonably intelligent but I am struggling with interviews where they want you to know what you'd do in the role even though you haven't got it yet.

I learn fast, I can be trained.. Let me talk about me/my skills/what I do now.

I am feeling so deskilled.

Milkandacookie · 04/10/2024 02:44

I'm actually feeling a bit anxious I might never escape my current job 😞, that my skills aren't transferable and Im somhow not able to present myself in the way needed.

excatly and or are vague on hours, or its advertised as eg 9-5 but then its eg 7- 6 etc

Someone on my FB just had a rant about a job interview. It was a video call with an AI bot! So not even a real person. And she failed it, so didn't even get to see a real person for a proper interview.

Milkandacookie · 04/10/2024 08:41

Oh that's depressing. That becomes even more about saying the right thing and ticking the right boxes rather than about a conversation with a person doesn't it.

When I lurk on linked in it seems lots of senior types do conversations but the bog standard jobs like I'd apply for are so prescriptive and random questions you wouldn't know unless you already do the job/are in that industry.

OMG that's next level.. I wouldn't be happy with tht either 🙁

Job seeking is grim. Another weird one is when recruiters ask you to send them a CV when they've just connected with you on Linked In. What is the point of looking at my Linked In profile and then asking for my CV, it's literally exactly the same content, there's not going to be anything more interesting in there! And my favourite at the moment is losing out to the internal candidate on a load of questions that they would always outperform you on. Forget the money, the best thing about getting a new job is not having to do job seeking any more.

Soccermumamir · 04/10/2024 18:01

Yeah, sometimes I wonder why we bother with CVs anymore when having to fill out forms. I hate when you submit on indeed, and you don't hear back from the company. Sometimes it doesn't even change to 'viewed' either. I think it's quite rude to be fair.

Me too!! Where is common decency? At least say thank you for your interest? I'm starting to think I'm too old :')

So much this. Dh is looking and has been turned down with the feedback “the salary is not where he’s at” eg £35-45k when he earns double. His specialism salary really varied under the same job title between companies. If they just said their salary they wouldn’t waste his time or theirs!

I feel exactly the same 😞 been jobhunting for over a year now

even when I meet all of the criteria from a job ad I’ve still been rejected

ASDnocareer · 04/10/2024 18:40

Agree with points already covered

Another frustration of mine is being ghosted after final stage interview. Has happened multiple times to me.

Most recently got to final stage with a very well known global organisation who claims to care about neurodiversity. I presumed that would mean being able to afford enough HR resource, who at the very least could send an automated rejection email but nothing.

I then politely sent a follow up email and asked for some feedback but that was ignored too.

I’d obsessively researched their company and role, and spent so much time and effort to get to final stage only to not be worth a simple automated rejection email.

LouiseTopaz · 04/10/2024 18:47

I did 6 interviews for my current role and I also did 8 interviews for another role I applied for. I'm in my early 30s and work within the Tech industry. I've been made redundant 4 times now nearly all of the businesses I worked for opened an office in India and slowly moved the work to there.

EveryOtherNameTaken · 04/10/2024 18:56

They are soul destroying. 90% get rejected through AI though you could be a perfect fit.

It obviously doesn't work because people constantly leave jobs after a short time and people literally say 'Oh, they were so good on paper'

Oh, the irony.
