To worry about this in the nursery

That their front door is unlocked and anyone can access at any time, no one can see people enter either as the nursery office doesn’t face the front door? Surely this isn’t right

Absolutely I would be worried! Why haven't they got a lock on it? Sounds like kids can just walk out too?

Differentstarts · 20/09/2024 18:50

That is weird most childcare settings are like prisons for getting in and out, I wouldn't like that either

Frowningprovidence · 20/09/2024 18:51

What can people access through the front door?

Is it a vestibule and the other parts of the site are secure or is it once you are in, you are in?

Groovee · 20/09/2024 18:56

Strange they don't have it locked. Every nursery I've worked in had a bell or buzzer.

lmhj · 20/09/2024 18:59

Are the internal doors locked.

Like where can you go once in.

Shupra · 20/09/2024 19:00

Im sure youll be mistaken.

MiscellaneousSupportHuman · 20/09/2024 19:01

Also, is it different at main drop off/collection times (when staff may well be deployed to check comings and goings) compared to all the rest of the time?

Mt563 · 20/09/2024 19:11

Does that give you full access to the building? That would worry me a lot on many levels.
Front door of ours is unlocked but it just goes into a foyer and the door from that is locked

OtterOnAPlane · 20/09/2024 19:28

That's really weird, and unlike any nursery I've known.

Can the kids get out as easily as adults can get in?

toomanydicksonthedancefloor1 · 20/09/2024 19:57

Yes very weird, the nursery I chose has a locked gate with a buzzer to get into the playground, and the main door to the building is unlocked. The other one I looked at had a main door off the car park that had a buzzer and was locked, and the playground was at the back and not accessible. Our primary school is the same. Yes I would be concerned.

toomanydicksonthedancefloor1 · 20/09/2024 19:58

And if anyone not on the list picks up they have to have a password and notify them in advance.

TimelyIntervention · 20/09/2024 19:58

Thats very odd, I’ve looked around at least a dozen nurseries and none of them have had an unlocked front door or gate.

Where does that door go? Can you get in to the other rooms from there, is it a reception area?

cuu · 20/09/2024 20:00

That is very worrying.

batsandeggs · 20/09/2024 20:01

I feel like surely there must be more to this because I simply cannot imagine a scenario where any parent would be ok with this or where it wouldn’t be breaching any safeguarding requirements.

Obviously it’s not ok. My child wouldn’t be attending a setting where anyone could come and go as they please, and where presumably children were also at risk of also getting out easily.

TuVuoiFaLamericano · 20/09/2024 20:27

That can't be right?

Ours has a buzzer and a video camera if you come outwith the pick up times.

Lavenderfield8 · 20/09/2024 22:06

It goes into a reception kind of area but it doesn't have any staff there and then the others doors have codes on but anyone could just walk into the nursery without anyone knowing and the managers office door doesn't have a code either

OP posts:
OhMaria2 · 20/09/2024 22:44

That's disturbing, is it on a busy street? Could a child wander out?

Edingril · 20/09/2024 22:47

I presume there is fire standards they have to make?

Bubugum · 20/09/2024 22:50

There are forest schools that are in public areas with no walls or means to keep children in and other adults out.
