I paid £4 +£2.90 postage for an item that arrived stained. It will cost £2.90 to post back. So do I pay to post it back? Or do I keep it and try to wash the stains out and use it as playwear for the kids? I'm loathed to pay £6.90 for a stained item but is that much worse than paying £5.80 for nothing?

Try and wash it first and see if the stains come out, if not can be used for messy play where you won’t be bothered how dirty it gets

MartinCrieffsLemon · 20/09/2024 14:40

How badly stained?

Precipice · 20/09/2024 14:43

You'll pay the 2.90 for nothing. One set of postage fees is paid, the other is part of the refund.

I return in such situations.

BookishBabe · 20/09/2024 15:14

I keep everything because it's not worth the effort.
It's shit and the "protection fee" means absolutely nothing.
I don't even raise it with the seller, because surely they knew it was stained and didn't give a shit, so what's the point in arguing with someone who won't give a shit.
I won't buy anything more than around £10 (usually) and just cross my fingers.
It is rubbish, but I've had way more bargains than stained shit, so I just put up with it.

I accidentally sold something that had a stain as new (I hadn’t realised) and the buyer obviously complained. She said the item was “significantly different” (an option on vinted I believe) which caused the transaction to be put on hold whilst resolving so no payment was received by me..

i was horrified to have sold her the item stained so I was provided the option on vinted of letting her keep it (and she got a refund) or asking her to send it back but I had to pay the postage (I chose this option). If she send it back by a certain date then she will be refunded otherwise the transaction is final.

maybe you can try and dispute it with her on vinted and see. You shouldn’t have to pay to send it back

BananaSplitSandwich · 20/09/2024 15:41

I’ve had this dilemma and it really sucks. I ended up keeping the item as it was white trainers and I knew they’d be filthy soon anyway.

There are round dark marks all over the arms, maybe 7 or 8 in total in a few different places and the item is grubby around the elbows and knees too. If it had been described as what it is, satisfactory, I wouldn't have bought it.

I would have to pay the original postage cost and the postage cost to return it, which is £5.80 total.

OP you will get back the postage and cost you paid initially I believe so will be down £2.90

If you haven't already I wouldn't speak to the seller as often they would agree to refund without return

MartinCrieffsLemon · 20/09/2024 16:14

I received an item damaged in transit
I paid to return it but got the original delivery charge back
It was pretty ridiculous that I had to pay in the first place tbh, seller was mortified too

I had to do this recently. It's infuriating that there is no option to leave a bad review either if the seller accepts it back but the buyer loses out because of postage.

I raised a dispute after contacting the seller and both agreeing to, but there's no option for the postage to be paid unfortunately. The only option is to buy the postage label to return it.

I am going through the same, OP. My item was not the one photographed, Vinted don't want to know and the seller is getting a bit abusive. I'm tempted to forgo my £20 just so I can leave a (fully deserved) bad review.

That’s pretty ridiculous ! I had to buy the label as the seller for the buyer. I am shocked that it’s not the default option!

WombatStewForTea · 20/09/2024 17:01

I've accidentally sold something stained before -more than once- I've both refunded the whole thing and told them to keep/bin it and I've also sent the postage by PayPal before
