Can't bite down

Had a composite filling today and now when I bite down my teeth on the other side don't meet fully? It's like the filling is too high? Is this normal? Will it settle?

I'd go back to your dentist. They should have checked your bite before you left. I don't think it will just get better on it's own.

It will just need adjusting. It happens. Give the practice a call in the morning and I'm sure they'll get you seen pronto.

I had this once and just had to go back to have the filling shaved down slightly. Mine was composite too. It was shaved down and there were no issues. Dentist apologised. It's just one of those things that sometimes happens.

Or maybe they didn't shave it down? They might've done something else. I can't remember. I can remember having it fixed, I just can't remember what they actually did to reduce the size of the filling 😂

Damn it. Another trip to the dentist then! Thanks

Hope it's a quick appointment OP! I'm sure they'll have you back in ASAP to quickly adjust the height so your bite is normal x

Sorry, but in my experiences on the first day or two of a filling. I’ve always had this and it’s always disappearing for me within 1-2 days. I’m like 4 fillings deep at this point.

Newname71 · 19/09/2024 22:16

Yes, sounds like the fillings a bit high. Dentists do usually check the bite but sometimes when you’re numb it’s hard to tell if it feels right or not.
I’d definitely go back because unlike amalgam fillings the composite won’t wear down very quickly and you could end up with toothache from constantly hitting that tooth first.
