Rust spots on new hob

I replaced my electric oven and gas hob, 10 weeks ago as my old oven finally stopped working and I thought it would make sense to replace the equally old gas hob at the same time.

I purchased a new Beko oven and hob through Curry's and they fitted about a week later. No complaints so far but today DH pointed out rust spots that have appeared on the stainless steel hob.

I contacted Curry's who advised the hob is under the manufacturer 6 month warranty and asked to contact them directly.

I spoke to a very helpful customer service rep and sent in photos as requested and which I've also attached here.

I've had a response from Beko to say this isn't covered under the warranty and it's normal cosmetic wear and tear! After 10 weeks? The hob gets relatively low use, we use our Air Fryer and the oven way more.

Does that sound right? I always wipe the hob with a damp cloth after use and try with a sheet of kitchen towel, so it's not a result of anything sitting on the surface and eroding it.

I'm inclined to respond and dispute the normal cosmetic wear and tear but interested to hear other people's views on whether this is a reasonable response please.

My old stainless steel hob lasted 10 years with no problems. Its replacement (not Beko) did what yours did in the first month though and I got the same response from the manufacturer as you have. I definitely don’t think stainless steel should rust so quickly.

You can reduce the appearance with tinfoil ( Google this I can't remember what to do!) or the good stuff cleaning paste.
But I agree I don't think it should happen, I also hate it when the company you bought from try to pass the buck to the manufacturer, you bought from the company your contract is with them, surely?

The same thing happened to us with a Smeg cooker, which I had always thought of as a relatively fancy brand. John Lewis were shit and we still have it. What's weird is that a year later the spots have vanished so God knows what that was all about. I hope you either get a replacement or the same mysteriously vanishing spots!

It's a reaction in the air( as I understand)with bleach used elsewhere in the kitchen , use some Bar keepers friend and it'll get rid of it.

I had to contact Beko about a 3 month old dishwasher that had completely packed in. Their customer service left a lot to be desired, persevere I would say, because I eventually got an engineer out who told me it was a known fault and replaced the offending part.

You have nothing to lose by persevering or posting on social media. Seems to be the way to get proper response these days.

Thanks for all your comments and advice. I persevered with Beko and they have agreed to replace the hob this week!
