Maternity Leave Entitlement Period

Hi everyone,

Am confused about this and wanted to check with any HR people.

So if I am due 25th February then the period where my Maternity Pay is calculated based on the period of 21st September to 16th November.

Is it the actual earnings during those weeks declared exactly. Or is it the average of payslips I receive during that period (so actually calculated on earlier weeks IYSWIM)

I'm hoping that makes sense.

Reason I am so worried is I have suffered awful morning sickness in previous months and my hours at work are slightly down. I believe still meeting the eligible bar (£123 per week) but if calculated on these reduced hours it will make a difference particularly for the 6 week 90%.

I am wondering whether I should ask whether I can top up my dropped hours with holiday or leave it as sick.

Thanks in advance,

I believe it's what you earn between them dates

Mrsttcno1 · 19/09/2024 14:11

Yes it’s the actual pay that you receive in those 8 weeks

matleave1233 · 19/09/2024 14:32

Thanks both;

I think it's the wording that's confusing me because I am reading that you are saying the opposite.

Is it what you earn (ie x hours times y rate), or what you receive (ie. Amount put into your bank account between those dates - so would be based on earlier if your payslip is once a month for example).

Or do you mean the same thing. And I am confused!

It’s based on what you actually get paid during those months. So if paid last working day of the month then for you it would be September’s pay and October’s pay.

Mrsttcno1 · 19/09/2024 14:36

It is based on the gross pay though so before deductions

@Mrsttcno1

Thank you!

So if I get paid on the 14th. It's my payslip of 14th October (pay based on Sept Hours) and 14th November (Pay based on Oct hours) which count.

So that means my hours which count are actually 1st-30th Sept and 1st-31st Oct.

Thank you 😊 sorry for being a bit slow here. Just want to be certain!!
