To ask when you stopped driving in pregnancy?

Name change as asked in my due date groups under real name!

When did you stop driving in pregnancy? I’m 5ft nothing with short legs and finding at nearly 32 weeks that it’s harder to fit behind the steering wheel. I have adjusted my seat and the steering wheel as much as possible. I can’t lower the seat anymore or move further back as I wouldn’t be able to see or reach the pedals.

Attached pic - am I still ok for now? I have about an inch between my bump and the steering wheel. I’m concerned about whether it is safe or if I need to hang up my car keys for a while!

Thanks x

I never stopped driving, even though i was huge with dc3. I'm 5'3 average legs if that makes a difference

You do you

You don't have to stop driving

I read somewhere it becomes unsafe if bump is very close or touching the steering wheel in the event of an accident?

didn’t know it was a thing people did stop driving?

Janedoe82 · 17/09/2024 18:44

Never stopped

Acornsoup · 17/09/2024 18:45

I didn't stop

InTheRainOnATrain · 17/09/2024 18:46

Never stopped. Doesn’t the steering wheel in your car adjust?

Pinkstuffs · 17/09/2024 18:46

I didn’t I drove myself to my induction because it calmed my nerves and I was a bit in denial! But if you feel uncomfortable then stop. I was actually in a car accident (someone drove into me) at 35 weeks which made me more cautious.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 17/09/2024 18:46

Never stopped, and nor did anyone else I know.

troppibambini6 · 17/09/2024 18:46

Never heard of stopping when you're pregnant!

I've had four babies and was always absolutely huge..... although I'm 5"8 so maybe longer legs.

LeopardPrintIsNeutral · 17/09/2024 18:46

I drove to my own induction at 38 weeks

BlueMum16 · 17/09/2024 18:46

I never stopped for either of mine.

Any crash would be bad for the baby. Do you stop being a passenger too?

Adjusted it the most it will, the pic is the most amount of room I can make myself. Does it look okay?

Much to my mother’s horror I was still driving after my due date when popping over to the hospital for daily monitoring. But I am 5’7” with long legs so fitted behind the wheel.

TikehauLilly · 17/09/2024 18:47

With that logic though being a passenger equally dangerous eg - you can be in an accident so stop.going in cars.

If the pressure on the bump if the issue for you then there are loads of things you should stop for the next 8 -10 weeks.

If you are worried genuinely and anxious then I think you need to process what it is and work through it. Maybe talk to yiur midwife

I would only stop doing things if it's uncomfortable for you.

No but as a passenger the steering wheel isn’t going to go into bump

Pinkstuffs · 17/09/2024 18:48

When I had the crash they asked if my bump had hit the steering wheel but it didn’t. Also asked if the seat belt pulled tight over it. So make sure your seatbelt goes under your bump.

Sat my driving test at 36 weeks lol

tiredhv · 17/09/2024 18:49

Eh? People don't tend to stop driving in pregnancy.

Unless you can’t fit.

I had to stop almost immediately. It was due to hyperemesis though. The vomiting was so bad that it just wasn’t safe for me to drive. DH drove me to and from work every day and to my many medical appointments.

RuthW · 17/09/2024 18:52

I stopped 20 mins before my waters broke.

Chocolateorange22 · 17/09/2024 18:52

Erm during labour, didn't realise that's what it was (FTM). Driving home and the oh shit thought crossed my mind. With DS he was 10lb and I physically couldn't get in and be able to reach the pedals from about 35 weeks.

Oakcupboard · 17/09/2024 18:54

I didn’t stop at all - also 5ft with short legs

CatamaranViper · 17/09/2024 18:55

I'm 5'2 with very short legs and I was about 32 weeks when I stopped for the exact same reason.
At 34 weeks my bump was squashed against the wheel (I didn't drive, just sat in the driver's seat to see).

Mari2003 · 17/09/2024 18:56

DC1: 5 hours before birth
DC2: 18 hours before birth

DC1 was driving and having contractions as I thought they were Braxton hicks 🤣
