October budget going to be painful part 2

October budget going to be painful http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/amiibeingunreasonable/5151574-october-budget-going-to-be-painful

Starting this up again as seen a similar thread on Instagram. When will the government take action to stop this nonsense that is free childcare for some but not all, none means tested.

I don't mind paying extra for women to get back to work but I fully resent paying for those who earn the same as me and squirrel their earnings away in pension, drop a days work to reduce salary then use the 30 hours for 4 days childcare to play the system. I also resent paying for 30 hours a week free childcare to people who have zero intention of finding any work, unless those 30 hours are spent working, why should I pay for someone to put their feet up?

As you can see in the comments of the IG post it's very evident there is a huge divide and those paying the most tax to subside childcare, don't get a single hour free and to add insult to injury, those taking the 30 free hours are bitter towards those paying for it.

No wonder so many millionaires are leaving this country. Labour want to raid inheritance tax, pensions, capital gains tax, ISAs and continue to tax 45-60% of 'high' earners and make them pay through the nose for childcare. DH and me are looking to move abroad and the country will suffer as more and more of us look to leave and tax our taxes elsewhere.

Please do what you say you’re going to do and just go.

How about waiting until the budget and then commenting on it?

You'll be able to make an informed decision and the discussions will be grounded in reality.

That way you can avoid ridiculous hyperbole

Oldermum84 · 17/09/2024 15:50

You don't sound like you understand what you're talking about, nor do you sound very nice.

Good luck with the move

IVFmumoftwo · 17/09/2024 15:50

You only get 30 hours childcare if you work more than 16 hours. If in a couple both of you have to work 16 hours and more. Might be best to fact check first.

Even the UC childcare help you both have to work.

Why should I pay for
Why should I pay for
Why should I pay for

Waaah

@increasinglyconcerned why do you resent people who drop to 4 days a week to be eligible for the childcare hours?

The government is heavily incentivising parents earning £100-200k to do just this. It’s a no brainer if you have two preschool children.

It’s a massively discussed topic among my peers in London (where many aren’t eligible for the childcare help). Every new government incentive effectively makes us lose more.

Avg. childcare bill for two is £3,500 - £4,500 (including 15 free hours at 3).

It’s pretty grating to discover you aren’t eligible for it. I need to earn an extra £35,000 to break even on loss of childcare benefits with two children.

I also resent paying for 30 hours a week free childcare to people who have zero intention of finding any work

Parents not in work don’t get 30 free hours.

those paying the most tax to subside childcare, don't get a single hour free

You’re right, they don’t get a single hour they get 15.

Come back when you’re moaning about things you actually know anything about. ✌️

Nogaxeh · 17/09/2024 15:57

I think there will be plenty of things to complain about once the budget actually happens. Seems a bit excessive to complain about what you imagine will be in the budget ahead of time.

What we do know is that the country is borrowing huge sums of money every year, and large parts of the public sector are dying on their feet.

I don't see how the country gets out of the hole it is in without everyone being prepared to pay more.

MidnightPatrol · 17/09/2024 15:58

@Completelyjo albeit you are only eligible for those 15 hours after age 3.

Age 9months - 3 years you aren’t eligible for any support.

MidnightPatrol · 17/09/2024 15:58

Also @increasinglyconcerned i can’t see anything around childcare being in the budget.

What are you expecting them to announce?

The policies you describe are the current offering.

IVFmumoftwo · 17/09/2024 16:05

Why don't you just wait and see?
