Just read that Hugh Edwards ahs been given a suspended sentence.

And if course it's not his fault. He had a mean Daddy and some mental health issues and some bad things going on in his life, poor lamb.

All that made him say 'amazing' when sent photos of children as young as 7 being molested.

Having a rough time and a strict father doesn't make you a fucking paedophile!!!

Take responsibility for your predatory and vile behaviour!!

Agree and he should have gone to prison. Disgusting human being.

Windchimesandsong · 16/09/2024 13:17

I'm also sick of these horrific crimes being seemingly treated so lightly.

As well as Huw Edwards, I was shocked that the man who sent him the images apparently also got a suspended sentence? I don't understand why.

ilovesooty · 16/09/2024 13:19

He was never going to get a stiffer sentence than the one handed out to the man who sent him the images. He also has to do a sex offending course and will be on the sex offenders register for seven years. He will be punished and humiliated by his reputation being ruined and being defined by society by the offences he has committed. There would be no purpose in sending him to prison.

HermioneWeasley · 16/09/2024 13:19

Lots of women have shit lives and poor mental health and almost none of them go on to be child sex offenders. Weird that.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 16/09/2024 13:19

For some reason men are always walking away from court with suspended stentences for having thousands of images of child abuse on their computers. It’s almost as if they don’t class it as a crime. Write an offensive tweet -it’s a different story!

WinterMorn · 16/09/2024 13:20

To be honest, this sentence is actually quite punitive for a first offence. The vast majority of people convicted of this type of behaviour get a community order not a suspended sentence.

rainsofcastamere · 16/09/2024 13:20

I won't write what I would like to write because either I'll be banned or it'll get deleted anyway.

This is something I don't understand.

Why didn't the man who sent the images get a more appropriate sentence (prison time)?

Also agree with this

I work in a prison with sex offenders. His challenge will be sticking to his sentence conditions so will likely end up in custody if breached. Many do

BlueBlahBlah · 16/09/2024 13:24

It’s disgusting, but unfortunately isn’t just because he’s famous. I know of two victims recently (past 1-2 years) where the offender was guilty as sin with no evidence to the contrary, and they still got off with suspended sentences.

I read it's because there aren't enough prison places to lock them all up - the number of men looking at this sort of thing is apparently absolutely shocking.

ClaudiaWinklepanda · 16/09/2024 13:24

A suspended sentence doesn't mean anything really, does it? You have to do the unpaid work, go on a register etc and, er, not break the law. Somehow the rest of us manage that last one.

How did suspended sentences come about? They're not a punishment, they seem to basically just be a second chance.

WinterMorn · 16/09/2024 13:26

@AGirlInACountrySong you can always tell the criminal justice bods on these threads 😉

mateow · 16/09/2024 13:26

I've just read this, I'm shocked, how the fuck can people get away with the sickest thing you could possibly do?

Naunet · 16/09/2024 13:27

I agree OP, I find it sickening. It seems everything in society comes second to mens dicks.

Because there will be more chance time wise of getting him on an appropriate course of intervention if he remains in the community. On top of that, if we imprisoned everyone doing this the prisons really would overflow within 24 hours.

KStockHERO · 16/09/2024 13:28

YANBU. At all.

Funny how almost zero women with mean daddies, mental health issues and bad things happening turn to pedophilia to cope, isn't it?

Like you, I'm raging. Not just about HE but about the general permissiveness about men's despicable behaviours. I really am starting to hate men, which is sad because I'm married to one.

UnRavellingFast · 16/09/2024 13:28

It’s got to the point where I find it difficult even reading about this and the other stream of appalling abuse of women and children by depraved men. It’s making me wonder if there is any good in this world.

Absolutely not true. A suspended sentence IS a custodial sentence, with the first presumption being activation should there be any breach or further offence.

You can’t change a nonce, and prison isn’t just about intervention, it’s about punishment.

Windchimesandsong · 16/09/2024 13:30

Talking of ruined lives. What about the children in these images. I know a man who was sexually abused as a child. He still struggles a lot as an adult. The argument that someone has had a difficult childhood is never an acceptable excuse to become a child abuser as an adult btw. The man I know absolutely despises child abusers.

WinterMorn · 16/09/2024 13:32

Naunet · 16/09/2024 13:30

Notwithstanding that, it’s possible to manage people’s behaviour without them being in prison.
