Went to a podiatry appointment today and was all ready for the minor surgery and the man randomly said ‘ so how much do you weigh roughly’ And then I told him I’m not sure exactly and then he tried to guess ‘about 10 stone?’ Aibu to think this is rude to guess my weight and my weight is no relevance to what I was having done

He needs the information for his job and for your safety and health. You probably should have expected to be asked. You have no grounds for complaint.

ExtraOnions · 16/09/2024 12:52

Maybe he’s training to be a “guess your weight” man at the fairground

That's made me howl 🤣🤣

Yes, you would be very unreasonable to complain about this. Your weight is just your weight, it's neither a compliment nor an insult. It's how much you weigh.

Ok, what do you see as the point of the thread?

I see it as yet another patient aghast that a professional had the audacity to talk about their weight, in a completely appropriate setting.

Unless you think they should administer the same amount of drugs to everyone, regardless of their weight?

Ever heard of scales? Much more accurate and in your words “professional” than guessing.

Hear that sound? You might not have heard it before but it’s the sound of a penny dropping.

I actually weigh a bit more tbh. I just wasn’t expecting to be asked

I thought you hadn’t weighed yourself for a while!

Except that isn't the point

OP is complaining he dared to even ask because she "didn't expect it"

So.. penny dropped?

Why don’t you let this OP speak for herself?

Have you read her updates?

That's what she said

No, all I can hear in my mind is the sound of you typing nonsense.

His guess wasn't far off according to the OP so he was just saving them both time, by verbally clarifying that he wasn't way off in his estimate.

But someone mentioned WEIGHT so waaaaah waaaaah waaaaah 🙄

A partial nail avulsion involves some anaesthetic, so knowing a rough estimate of your weight is needed, isn't it? So it's not exactly an outrageous enquiry from a healthcare provider.

Complaining because he asked something you weren't expecting to be asked is ridiculous.
