to object to this piece of homework

DS (Year 7) has been given a piece of Art homework, to be done for this Wednesday, to create a collage using chocolate bar wrappers. We don't have any in the house as a) DH and I are dieting and b) my kids don't eat chocolate. Am I therefore supposed to go out and buy half a dozen bars, bin the contents just to use the wrappers or, worse, let the kids eat it all? How does this fit in with "healthy schools?" And it's going to cost too. Would it be churlish of me to write to the teacher and say, "sorry, mate?"

Thanks everyone, for all your suggestions. You have successfully diverted me from the AIBU rant that I was spoiling for earlier with pro-active solutions. I love Mumsnet, me.

Aha, yes - he could have been collecting wrappers from choc-eating friends and relatives - or even doing a little litter-bllitz in your area, and then done a coolage with them of a rotting tooth or an obese person.

Or just a portrait of me, enjoying a Twirl Bar .

In fact had you been truly community-minded, you could have put out a call for MN-ers to send you a wide variety of wrappers - and given everyone an excuse to eat that iron-rich G&B languishing in the cupboard
