To wonder how people afford weight loss injections?!

So many people I know are doing Mounjaro or Ozempic. I’ve looked at the price online and even with the discount it’s still hugely expensive in this cost of living crisis.
I would love to do it but there’s no way I can afford it long term.

@TeaAndTattoos But no one is taking Mounjaro from diabetics, that's the whole point? And with all due respect, you say you've been overweight your whole life and are morbidly obese, which suggests you've not exactly cracked the 'keeping the weight off' formula yourself. Good you're doing something about it, but maybe focus on your own health and weight loss without worrying about other people who are making a different choice that's right for them. Someone taking MJ has no impact on you at all.

My mum was waiting for ozempic but no one can get hold of it because people who don’t need it are getting it so they had to put her on munjaro because that’s the only one they can get hold of. But it’s good to know that you feel so good about taking much needed medication away from people who actually need it. A gym membership is much cheaper so is drinking water and just moving a bit more but people are lazy and are always looking for a weight loss quick fix because no one wants to do some hard work. And before you say that I don’t know what it’s like to be overweight I do I’ve been overweight my whole life but I’ve managed to get myself down from 21 stone 9 to 20 stone 6 just by drinking water and exercising much safer than giving myself an injection that I don’t need and I’m sure we will see a lot of people whinging about how ill they are after using the injection because that’s what people do when they jump on the bandwagon and then end up with dangerous side effects. What people need to do is sort out the way they are eating first before going for the injection because you need know how to keep the weight off permanently once you stop the injection otherwise you will just put it all back on again and the cycle will continue. But you crack on whatever makes you feel better. But what your doing isn’t actually healthy it’s just creating more problems and not actually helping with the reason behind the weight problem it’s just putting a plaster over a gaping wound and expecting it to heal.

There is no shortage of Mounjaro, so no one taking Mounjaro is taking medication away from anyone who needs it.
As for the rest of it, it’s such ignorant, uninformed, barely legible bollocks that it’s not worth responding to.

Dunnoburt · 15/09/2024 22:11

40 quid a week......save that in take aways!

Galdownunder · 15/09/2024 22:13

My health insurance pays for half of my Ozempic so a pen is 75AUD a fortnight, not a burden at all. It’s awesome I’ve lost nearly 20kgs now.

well said

to that PP- Mounjaro is licensed for weight loss as well as t2 diabetes. It is long established that being obese can cause t2 diabetes. I really don’t think it’s for you to make a judgment on what medication people need. That is a decision between them and their prescriber. Personally I think it’s better that people take responsibility for their health and if this is a tool that will help all well and good. Better than developing diabetes and “needing” MJ due to that IMO

LaurieFairyCake · 15/09/2024 22:23

Happii

When I take the drug at the beginning of the week as you can see I'm eating very little

But by the end of the week I'm eating 800 calories a day (chicken and Greek salad twice a day)

That's clearly plenty to sustain me as I actually put on weight at 1000 calories (I'm under 5ft tall)

I only lose a pound a week - hardly loads but obviously I have never been able to do that before as it was impossible to eat only 800 calories and not be climbing the walls with starvation

I've literally had to control my weight my entire life as I'm sure you can imagine eating less than a 1000 calories a day is incredibly hard

LaurieFairyCake · 15/09/2024 22:27

It's interesting all the comments

Clearly I'm healthy if I'm only losing a pound a week on 800 calories

I can't help it, I'm very short, over 50, have pre diabetes, menopausal 🤷‍♀️

People have to realise people are different. I didn't get overweight by overeating by what most people understand by that.

Comedycook · 15/09/2024 22:28

I recently put my stats into a calorie tracker app and to lose a steady 2 lbs a week, I can eat 1000 cals a day. It's actually an incredibly small amount. The willpower it takes is huge and whilst yes I have done it in the past, it's absolutely miserable and my mind thinks about food all the time. I think I probably will try the injections at some point...I've been battling my weight for over thirty years now. I really think the idea that we all need to try harder and stop being lazy and greedy is outdated and doesn't work.

I absolutely understand. The only time by BMI has been in the healthy range is when I ate one meal a day. I was hungry pretty much all the time. The idea that anyone overweight is gluttonous is false.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 15/09/2024 17:43

What a mean post! How about supporting your friend instead of criticising?

@Idontjetwashthefucker How dare you insinuate that I don't support her!? I am stating facts. Facts!! Jesus Christ on a bike.

She has cancer and cannot walk far, and she was prescribed Wegovy to lose weight, however this has not happened to the extent she hoped it to. She has lost some but the rest stays put because she isn't able to exercise. How the absolute hell did you interpret that as not being supportive you absolute plank?

HoolsB · 15/09/2024 22:37

What a weird question.

SilenceInside · 15/09/2024 22:41

@GetBackInYourBox I think that some people think the word "grossly" is a judgement rather than just meaning extremely large.

She says to me she is grossly overweight. I was parroting what she says

GettingStuffed · 15/09/2024 22:52

For those of you who buy online did you have any health checks beforehand.? I qualify for Ozempic as a type 2 diabetic but I have kidney problems so I'm probably never going to be prescribed it as it can cause kidney damage.

SilenceInside · 15/09/2024 22:54

@GettingStuffed what can cause kidney damage? Ozempic/Wegovy or Mounjaro?

TeaAndTattoos · 15/09/2024 22:54

@doodleschnoodle @SecondFavouriteDinosaur where did I say that people where taking Munjaro from anyone reading skills are very important I said that my mum was waiting for Ozempic but because so many people are using it for weight loss she ended up having to have munjaro because that’s all anyone can get hold of at the minute. Do me a favour learn how to read before you jump straight to replying.

QueenOfHiraeth · 15/09/2024 23:22

@TeaAndTattoos If the information I have read is correct then you should be pleased as Mounjaro is a newer drug which is more effective and has fewer side-effects than Ozempic. I hope your mum does well on it.
There is really no need for this level of aggressiveness from you towards strangers who are blameless in this situation

Ozempic is only for diabetics. So if your mum can't get it, it's because more diabetics are getting it than what's available. If your mum has been put on Mounjaro it's because she is obese. Why can't your mum diet and exercise and drink water or whatever it is you think the cure is for obesity? Most likely the reason she's diabetic is because of her obesity. Shame you couldn't give her these great nuggets of wisdom before she become diabetic isn't it?

So your solution is for everyone to wait to become diabetic before taking a drug that can prevent it yeah?

Also, fyi, mounjaro is better than ozempic. So your mum is actually on the better medication.

Couldn't you eat 1250 calories and lose 1.5lbs a week or 1500 and lose 1lb a week, or if you're able to, increase your exercise to allow you to eat more?

Sorry, as I said your posts are barely legible so it’s hard to figure out what your point is.
However, Mounjaro is actually more effective and has fewer side effects than Ozempic so it’s good news for your mum that she was given it as an alternative. Also, Ozempic isn’t actually used for weight loss in the U.K., so if there was a shortage it was because a large number of diabetics have been prescribed it.
Oh, and it’s Mounjaro, not Munjaro.

CharlotteBog · 15/09/2024 16:17

So many people I know are doing Mounjaro or Ozempic

I don't know anyone taking it - at least no one who has told me.

I thought I was an average person leading an average life.

People are taking it. They just don’t want to be judged so they aren’t telling others
My mother is taking it and hasn’t told anyone ( except for me and her GP)

Lampzade · 16/09/2024 05:54

Many of these naysayers harping on about Mounjaro being dangerous are probably jealous individuals who are annoyed that others are taking steps to lose weight and are succeeding.
The naysayers are usually those who are obese themselves annd are scared to take the injection or can’t afford to take it.
Other naysayers are slim and as a result probably felt superior because they could maintain a slim figure and are pissed off because their overweight acquaintances are losing loads of weight and are slim too.
This is the unpalatable truth imho

AubreysMonkey · 16/09/2024 06:11

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Type 2 diabetes usually caused by being fat?

The only negative comment I have had was by a colleague who was vexed because her (very fat) type 2 diabetic mother couldn't get ozempic because all the selfish fatties were buying all the stock!

Apologies if T2 diabetes isn't caused by obesity.

AubreysMonkey · 16/09/2024 06:14

@TeaAndTattoos

Did I read it correctly, you've lost 3ibs (20st9 - 20st6) by increasing your water intake? That's a great start, when you have lost 3-4 stone on your new plan please do come and update us and and then you can offer us your unsolicited advice

Rm2018 · 16/09/2024 06:27

Can I ask where the cheapest place for mounjaro is?
