Joggers spitting - to think it’s unnecessary

As the title suggests.

Lovely walk this morning in my local national trust park. Big group of men and women (local jogging club) run by. Half of them hacking out massive globs of spit and spitting onto the path - not even off it which tbh is vile in itself - but straight onto the only path around the lake.

AIBU to think it it’s unnecessary and disgusting? I know asthmatics (such as myself) can struggle with excess phlegm - but for goodness sake, you do not need to spit. If you are struggling stop sodding exercising - don’t spit up all over the sodding path you grim wankers.

YANBU I run and struggle with excess phlegm and runny nose. I always stuff tissues in pockets of my running leggings. Disgusting to spit it out on pavement imo no excuse

I say "disgusting" whenever I see someone spit (unless they look like they might beat me up).

It's one thing I think I can guarantee my DC would never do.

I find this incredibly hard to believe unless you never run in group runs or races/events.

i definitely think you should contact the club. What have you got to lose? It’s disgusting behaviour.

Every single person I have ever seen spit, runner / teen, is a man.
I've called out teens who do it and tell them to stop dribbling or wear a bib. They usually swear or look embarrassed.

Any spitting in public is gross. And it's always boys/men.

Why can’t they take a tissue or a pot to spit into which can then go in the bin

I’ve only ever seen men spitting (or boys). It’s absolutely disgusting and no need for it. I have severe asthma and can manage to go out without spitting.

I run and I have never spit. Always take tissues or wear a buff I use like a hanky.

I find spitting disgusting. Have you watched football? They're all at it. It's a thing but that doesn't make it ok.

Never seen a woman runner spit. Loads of men do. Park path dotted with mucus and dog poo.

You can tuck the tissue etc into your leggings / joggers - many have pockets now.

Beyond disgusting. It should be fined the same way dropping gum or cigarette butts on the ground is. It’s littering and biohazard. Honestly don’t know why anyone considers it remotely acceptable. And as for the people who randomly spit walking down the street - just WTF? Grim.

Ha , I'm going to go against the grain.
I've been a runner for 20 years, always off road, but think your not running hard enough if you don't need to spit! I've run for England in my time and can tell you sometimes I come back a spitty snotty mess!

I bet they can manage to find something to put their phone and water in so it wouldn’t be hard to carry a tissue or small bag or pot . Although maybe not a bag as then will there be bags of joggers snot joining the bags of dog shit hanging off trees

porobably get flamed but I don’t think I’d get not hung up about runners spitting tbh, generally it’s gross and seeing guys doing it for no good reason than because they think it makes them look hard is revolting but someone doing something worth while for their body, might be new to running and struggling with the excessive saliva in their mouth as they adjust? Meh as long as they do it discreetly and not as someone walks by I couldn’t really care. Funny that everyone on this tread is so disgusted by this but a dog pissing and shitting everywhere (yes even when picked up leaves a shitty reside on the ground) is fine 🤷‍♀️

You'd think they could use a study hanky or tissue if there's some scientific reason for the need to spit. My dad used to make me feel queasy when we were out walking, he'd hack these awful lumps of phlegm all over the road. In between chain smoking silk cut. The poor guy wasn't well but all I remember is how disgusting it looked and sounded.

Of course it is. They might not want to, but they can. They choose to be vile instead.

Oh dear, I did it today! I almost never do and think it’s a bit disgusting, but sometimes it really feels like what you need to do. I try not to let anyone see me.
