To ask what I should watch?

I'm terrible at watching TV, especially finding something new. I have a poor attention span and always double screen. DH out tonight and I want to watch something with my dinner, something lighthearted, funny and feel good with half hour long each episodes.

For example I like this country, Ghosts, fleabag, what we do in the shadows, motherland. I have seen most of the classics like father ted, ab fab, peep show etc. I keep seeing colin from accounts pop up, is it any good? I don't like cringe comedy, for example that not going out show which often seems get prime time on a Friday night, or Mrs brown's boys.

Would love some ideas!

Friday night dinner

rainsofcastamere · 13/09/2024 20:29

Colin from Accounts is fabulous and quite touching in places! The Aussie humour is certainly more 'British' than the US is, IMO anyway!

GreyCarpet · 13/09/2024 20:32

My children (adults) enjoyed Only Murders in the Building.

I watched a couple and it was ok but not really my cup of tea. Everyone else else seems to like it though!

Iloveeverycat · 13/09/2024 20:32

Resident Alien.

BakingQueen14 · 13/09/2024 20:33

I liked Dinosaur on bbc iplayer. Binged it recently.

Derry Girls is excellent, Father Ted levels of perfection. So if you haven't watched it, you should.

I know you said you don't love American style comedies, but you should try 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation and Abbott Elementary. Also, The Good Place is truly excellent and has a different feel to a lot of US comedies.

ThePanda · 13/09/2024 20:40

Green Wing is brilliant
Two doors down is funny too.

Both British comedies

Derry Girls is really good, as is Friday Night Dinner.

I like the sound of this Kaos thing, might give that a go tonight!

inthehammock · 13/09/2024 20:47

Apologies if it's already been suggested, but Detectorists? I could watch it over and over

TheUnquestionedAnswer · 13/09/2024 20:49

Its not that I dislike US comedies, I've watched 30 rocks and parks and rec multiple times through. It's just not the cosy feeling I'm looking for atm. Lots of good suggestions here though

And sorry but Ted Lasso was a bit cringe and cheesy for me

Stath Lets Flats is great. And seconding the suggestion of The Detectorists. It was so much better than I expected - I really loved it. Funny and warm and clever.

Needhelp101 · 13/09/2024 21:07

Another vote for Daddy Issues on BBC. Funny and touching.

Can't go wrong with the I.T. Crowd or Red Dwarf (series 1-6) either.

Figgygal · 13/09/2024 21:07

Definitely coming from accounts

poppyzbrite4 · 13/09/2024 21:10

Slow Horses
Black Books
Toast of London
Detectorists
It's a Sin
Broadchurch
I May Destroy You
Happy Valley
Line of Duty

TheRomanticOutlaw · 13/09/2024 21:11

I have similar tastes to you OP. I second the Detectorists & Derry Girls, Friday Night Dinner, Green Wing.
What about Ricky Gervais? "Extras" was so funny, and how about Afterlife? That's funny and moving and heartwarming, it's brilliant. Or Peter Kay's Car Share, I loved that.

Humdingerydoo · 13/09/2024 21:12

Schitts Creek! Currently rewatching for the fourth time as it's just such a funny and feel-good show!

Humdingerydoo · 13/09/2024 21:13

Just seen that you like taskmaster - watch another countries version?

HollyBerri · 13/09/2024 23:44

Derry Girls - just rewatched it. Brilliant!
