Tesco vs bank

Hi, my bank statement today shows that on a certain date, a payment was made to Tesco.
Tesco say that no amount was taken against anything on my account (I've never purchased online at Tesco this year) and I should contact my bank.
I did this and the fraud team have deemed that the purchase is valid 😤
I have never ever shared my bank details with anyone, and my card is always with me.
I can't get resolution either through Tesco or my bank, so I'm out of pocket by a sizeable (to me) amount, tho hundreds not thousands.
Is the someone I can contact to take this further?
I really don't know where to turn, and I'm very upset at this money being taken.
TIA

Your bank should investigate this and give you the money back if you've raised this as a transaction you didn't make unfortunately You're card can be used even without the card itself I've had it happen to me no joke I'm in the UK and my bank flagged a transaction that was attempting to be made at a hair salon in another country! No idea how they got my details but they did

So what did your bank said exactly? I've had something similar and they froze the payment immediately to investigate. They'll be able to give you more specific details of the transaction at least I think.

The bank will easily be able to tell if the payment has been made online or in person and whether it was made with chip and pin or contactlessly.
Normally they don't immediately deem it to be a genuine transaction unless the pin has been used.
Normal investigations would be carried out before they deemed it as genuine so if they have done that and concluded it is genuine they would be able to provide you their reasons and be happy to provide these to you.
If no investigation has taken place and they have denied your claim query this again with them

Hi.. thanks all.
Despite several calls to both my bank and Tesco, I have got absolutely nowhere.
Tesco did inform me that the four digits on my statement where it seems the payment was made to Tesco, is not actually a Tesco (each store is allotted a four digit number, and the numbe on my statement does not related to a Tesco store) store.
So in my mind it’s even clearer that “something” odd is occurring.
Well because I’ve exhausted all avenues at the bank and Tesco, I’m hoping that there’s a “body” of people that could listen to all the facts, and try to get that money back for me, but I’ve no clue as to who takes on a service like that.
im afraid it’d need to be a free service, coz if it was say a solicitor, any fee they charged, would prob wipe out the amount that I’ve “lost”..
So… is there any group of people I can contact that might help me?
Thanks you

Some newspapers have a feature where their “money expert” helps a reader with a problem. Would that be something you would consider?

It sounds like you've been a fraud victim. It looks like someone took a payment from your account but made it look like Tesco. Some people might not question a big company appearing on a bank statement, whereas a different name would raise more questions. If you've been on to Tesco and they say its not their codes, then there's no point in pursuing them, it's got nothing to do with Tesco. Your bank should be interested in this though, as its evidence of a fraudulent transaction. You need to keep chasing the fraud department in your bank.

It's so upsetting... firstly to see a large sum in the "money put" section of the statement , and then a futther kick in the gut when the bank deems its not refundable, and once that happens, it seems they won't then listen to what I've discovered from Tesco.
The banks themselves as a group agree that once an individual has been a victim of a scam or fraud, or whatever name you can think of, it's more likely that you'd be targeted again.
It's looking more and more likely that I'm gonna have to accept that I've "lost" that money.
Gut wrenching

Try consumer champions at The Guardian

There is more to try with your bank first though. Make an official complaint with them, report the matter to Action Fraud and take it up with the banking ombudsman. Or your MP. It sounds like quite a pernicious fraud and that they do not give a shit.

I had insured my car with Churchill … until the police told me I hadn’t

The company had stopped my annual renewal without telling me and I don’t know a reason

I would ask the bank directly how the fraud was conducted and how they can reassure me it will not happen again. If you are a victim of fraud and you have not given out details willingly then they have a duty to refund you (up to £415,000) and also find out what the fuck is going on, otherwise it will happen to that customer again or multiple other customers.

Banks are a business. They are not doing us a favour in holding our money, this is the way the system is set up and they are making money from it, and it is their first duty to keep it safe.

Thank you vivid cat, that sounds really helpful…
I appreciate the post you made.
