To find this behaviour unusual

When ever I go out with a friend she gets uncomfortable when she sees breakable objects particularly mirrors. I’ve noticed that she takes a picture of the mirror after passing them and today when she couldn’t due to a person being there she walked back to take the picture. Any ideas why? I could ask her of course but she seems like she wouldn’t want to talk about it,

Some sort of ocd checking behaviour? Maybe she has intrusive thoughts about breaking something and photographic evidence is how she reassures herself that she didn’t?

Just a guess from lived experience!

I have a family member who had to read signs. Any sign, instructions, adverts. OCD behaviour on his part though once he acknowledged it he got help and now doesn’t do it so much! Maybe question it and see if your friend is aware of it or if it bothers them. Could be helpful to them one day

It sounds like OCD. Many people seem to think OCD is just about keeping everything really clean, when that could not be farther from the truth.

Do you think she catastrophises later, thinking she's broken it, so the photo is reassurance she hasn't?

I agree. I find people who like to have things clean but call it OCD so out of line! People with OCD have such difficulties daily and I’m offended for them when someone uses it to boast about their hygiene standards 😆

She’s just distracting you from noticing that she has no reflection in them

Yes I used to take pictures of the cooker to reassure myself I hadn't left it on during my OCD years.

I sometimes drive back on my route to check I haven't caused an accident without noticing. Yes, this is not normal I know.
