I had a terrible viral infection type thingy in December, at one point the hospital thought I'd had a stroke, given that my sympotoms left me temporarily paralysed down one side. So I was back and forth at the doctors to see what was wrong etc.

I kind of feel I have taken up too much of the doctors time, given that the hospital and doctors eventually settled on a dianosis of a migraine type and viral infection.

However, its now April and I feel like shite. My bones and limbs ache. If I am anywhere near lying down, I'm asleep. I fall asleep whilst I am studying. My skin is bloody awful. My hair is lank even if it has just been washed.

The thing is, I know if I go, the doctor will probably just laugh and point out that I work full time, have a two year old, am studying at home, and run the house hold as my husband works long hours.

So, AIBU in still wanting to go to the doctors and moan?

Absolutely not - I work, have 2 los, run the house with dh working abroad and whilst I feel shattered, I certainly don't feel as dreadful as you. YANBU to go to doc's to see what can be done. This doesn't sound as though you're recovered from your problems earlier.

wrinklytum · 19/04/2008 23:09

Elf,I had glandular fever and it took me MONTHS to recover.A nasty virus can really knock you for six.Can you afford enough to get a cleaner to take some of the pressure off,or could you reduce your hours at work??You need to take the pressure off somewhere.

You could go to the docs and ask them to recheck you bloods. My full blood count was abnormal for ages after the glandular fever

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 19/04/2008 23:10

I thought I was recovered from the Dec thing because that involved generally throwing up all the time and being unable to move, then the serious bits of losing feeling down one side of my body. I've been better since Jan on that front (albiet late Jan).
But its in the last month that everything seems to have got worse. I made a big effort regarding changing my diet and eating more fruit and veg, plus drinking more fluids, and taking vitamin c, but nothing seems to work.
I look like a greasy lanky haired teenager with bad skin, and the worst thing, is that I dont have the energy to do much about it!

Yanbu! Get youself back there asap! You sound like the virus is still there or at the very least because you have been ill you have picked up another one.

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 19/04/2008 23:12

And I have got terrible bags under my eyes, even though I am sleeping for England. People have started looking at me asking me if I am okay. My response is "yes, I know I look like shite..."

Yanbu to go back to the doctors as you are still feeling ill.

I remember seeing your thread when you were suffering from the symptoms that seemed like they might be neurological and it all sounded very stressful. It could be that you need some blood tests to see if you might be anaemic or something.

wrinklytum · 19/04/2008 23:14

I would go back and tell all this to the doc. They may be able to do some routine blood tests. It could be post viral fatigue, though. You have my sympathies.I spent about a year at university feeling godawful and weak as a kitten.I did not have a full time job two year old and house to manage on top though, you poor thing

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 19/04/2008 23:16

I will book an appointment on Monday.
I want to cry
I never realised viral infections could be so nasty. The docs at the local surgery thought I had a viral infection which was affecting my nurological system. The hospital decided on migraines, so it got a little confusing!

I am hoping I haven't gotten something else, like glandular fever.
Just googled the symptoms of GF which says stomach pains are also a symptom, which I also have been having, though I had thought the pains were related to the increase of fruit!!

Can you also do as wrinklytum suggested and cut yourself some slack somewhere ? Sounds like you are still run down after the virus/migraine problems and need a bit of tlc.

Remotew · 19/04/2008 23:23

Elt, I'm sorry you feel so ill and you should go back to the docs and tell them. I've heard that the fishy one (cod) has also had GF. The thing is that if you dont feel right you should get it checked out and sorted. Hope you improve soon.

Remotew · 19/04/2008 23:27

I will add, that I was run down a little while ago and felt that things were going wrong. eg new car pranged, work problems etc and then I got so ill I ended up in bed for 4 days with a nasty virus. I do believe that health can be linked to bad vibes etc in life so get to the docs now. You dont want to be laid up in bed.

wrinklytum · 19/04/2008 23:29

Elf I am not saying you have GF,am no doc,but any nasty viral thing can leave you with post viral fatigue and make you feel shyte for months. If you can try to get some help with the housework element at least. Can you get an extension for your studies??Take care,Wrinkly xx

work wise, my line managers and I have just re-jigged all the work within my team (I'm team leader) so hopefully that will mean a little less stress for me, plus we're just coming out of year end and being auditored, so will quieten down soon.

wrt studies, I am sitting my technician exams (accounting) in tax and accounting in June, have entered and now cannot get out of them.

I have a friend who is happy to do my ironing for me, I just feel guilty when it is nothing more than ironing and falls into the washing pots, cleaning the bathroom, cleaning the floors type stuff. I'm 26, I should be full of energy and able to manage. I was in the same position last year - working full time, baby, study, but this year has been a struggle.

Anyway, I am losing the ability to type correctly. I'm going to go to sleep and I will pick this up tomorrow. Thank you for all your replies a little sympathy goes a long way.

I studied for AAT and ACCA and know that it is hard work, whilst you are working full time and I didn't have a two year old to look after.

Try not to feel guilty and accept your friend's help whilst you are not feeling well. I'm sure she knows you would do the same for her if she needed it.

Let us know how you get on at the docs.

Remotew · 20/04/2008 00:28

I've dont AAT also. Didnt go further as I dont want to do ACCA but would quite like to do CIMA. It's not easy and respect to you both.

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 21/04/2008 13:57

well, I made the appointment today - its a week on Monday, the earliest they could fit me in

Remotew · 21/04/2008 19:54

Gosh that's a long waiting time for an appointment. It will be worth getting checked out though.

avenanap · 21/04/2008 20:00

I went from going once every two years to once a week! I had complications after having glandular fever, they never told me to go away (did refuse to do any more blood tests though). I've got to go back as I'm still knackered. This is 18 months after getting the virus. They are paid to listen to all of your aches and pains. That's why they do the job. I'm hoping that they will say I have chronic fatigue syndrome so that I can get some help.

avenanap - hope you sorted soon, that sounds horrible.

Well, so far tonight I have managed to stay awake, unlike last night when I fell asleep pratically mid conversation!
