Ours is a two week rolling menu with a different main meal every day. Jacket potatoes available everyday for those who don't want the main meal.

I can understand parents at your school being annoyed OP. One option a day or a jacket potato isn’t great, but would be fine if parents had the option to send in packed lunches.

At your school it must mean that either everyone’s meal is vegetarian every day or the children who don’t eat meat are stuck with a boring potato every day.

No sorry, they have two options - meat or veggie. Plus the potato/salad bar

uk Primary school (south west) has meat option, veggie option, jacket potato option (rotating between just cheese, baked beans or tuna) pasta option ( alternating between cheesy pasta and tomato pasta)
all meals are actually made on site (unusually!) and apparently are very nice, even a lot of the teachers have them.

3 week rolling menu here, also a spring/summer & autumn/winter menu change. The options are:
Main meal
Veggie option
Halal
Jacket potatoes
There's always a meat free Monday & fish finger Friday. My very fussy kids do actually eat from all of the menus - they love the quorn nuggets & halal chicken for roast.

Two different main options (usually one meat or fish and one veggie, but sometimes both veggie), or a jacket potato as a further option every day, with a choice of fillings.

There’s the regular and veggie option, that’s it.

This is same for us

Also overseas here. Kids get served one meal, no choices. Vegetarians and allergies catered for separately. No packed lunches although kids can go home for lunch (almost none do).

My kids are always telling me they ate such-and-such healthy thing at school that they would never touch at home Hmm

In general it seems to work fine but maybe that's because it's the norm here and what all the parents grew up with as well.

This is exactly how nurseries work here. Not sure why parents then want 10 choices for lunch at prep school!

Two week rolling menu, choice of meat, vegetarian, three jacket potato options and a choice of a school made packed lunch. However, as I am in London, the quality of food has been noted to have gone down since Khan made primary school lunch free.
