Insect bite (posting for traffic)

son woke up with this bite on his leg. Had a look online but can’t find too much. Should I be considering taking him to dr? Or calling 111? It’s not itchy but the lines coming off it are what’s concerning me

With the tracking I would ask to see a doctor, you don't want it getting infected.

See the pharmacist ,no need for GP appt. Keep up with antihistamines and hydrocortisone cream in the meantime time.

SilenceInside · 12/09/2024 11:37

I would get that seen, do you have a minor injuries near you? The red tracking lines would worry me.

GenAvocadoOnToast · 12/09/2024 11:37

This is unusual. It could be lymphangitis or parasitic. Draw a line around it so you can monitor the spread, and see a GP.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 12/09/2024 12:02

Pharmacist for sure.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 12/09/2024 12:05

Really no need to see the GP unless the pharmacist recommends it. The pharmacist can even prescribe antibiotics now of necessary.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 12/09/2024 12:06

Agree with a trip to the pharmacist. I'm on my last day of a round of antibiotics for an infected bite and it was a million times quicker than trying to get a GP appointment. If it needs seeing by a GP then pharmacist will refer you so nothing to lose either way.

Tracking indicates infection and infected insect bites are part of the Pharmacy First initiative. But before you go to a pharmacist, check they’re actually part of the Pharmacy First scheme, because not all are.

Windmillsofyourminds · 12/09/2024 12:17

Pharmacist will not necessarily see you. Pharmacy First has strict guidelines and this may not fit with them.
I went to my local pharmacy on Tuesday as I had an infected bite and they told me they cannot treat it until 48 hours after the bite. I tried to get a GP appointment yesterday but none available. I went back to the pharmacy and they were too busy to see me. I went to another pharmacy who told me it was too bad for him to deal with and to go to Urgent Care.
I get this regularly and know when I need antibiotics. Urgent Care is the best place.

Looks like Lymphangitis.
A spider bite can produce this type of tracking and is considered a mild reaction that resolves in a few days.

But it can also be a sign of infection spreading within the lymph nodes so I'd get the bite seen in a pharmacy. If there are other symptoms (fever, heat or pain) I'd go to GP or Urgent care/minor injuries.
