A&e or wait for GP?

honestly don’t have a scooby doo what to do, really hoping someone has some advice or knowledge

basically my heart feels like it’s going pretty fast. My Apple Watch says it’s about 180. I’ve had SVT before and am unmedicated now because I had an ablation in summer (I posted on here for advice at the time )- I haven’t had a single SVT since then so I was delighted with the results but I think it’s started again tonight

but I don’t even know if it is svt because I thought the ablation meant I couldn’t have anymore episodes of it anymore? But at the same time I have no idea what else it could be, I suppose it could just be stress but I didn’t feel stressed when I came on

but since I’ve already had an ablation so I don’t know if it would be overkill to go to A&e for this? Previously I went to a&e for my episodes but now I’ve had the ablation I don’t know if that changes anything because it can’t be SVT now since it’s meant to be fixed? and even if it is SVT again I was told it doesn’t cause problems other than discomfort and I don’t feel too bad with it at the moment, so I’m not sure if I’d be better just to wait and get a GP appt tomorrow? Previous episodes I had felt really bad so I just took myself to A&e

ah, sorry I know I’ve rambled a bit but I’m just so gutted this has happened again as I haven’t had a single issue after my ablation. I don’t want to be that person in a&e that is timewasting if it’s just stress or something else minor and i obviously don’t want to go to a&e at midnight but at the same I’ve no clue what else to do!

I’m not sure what SVT is. Can you call 111 for advice?

Popadomorbread · 12/09/2024 00:50

Nurse here! If your heart rate is staying consistently that high, with your history of SVT I would say go to A&E now. You can’t risk it with the heart.

Babyenroute · 12/09/2024 00:50

No idea what an svt or ablation is but since heart related and you have had issues in the past I would go to an and e to be on safe side.

ohfourfoxache · 12/09/2024 00:51

A&E

Oh good point, just realised I missed that from the OP! I called for advice but it’s usually a long wait to get a call back unfortunately so I’m not holding out much hope (there are always really long delays in our area)

According to the NHS website

Immediate action required:Call 999 if:
you've been diagnosed with supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) and your episode has lasted longer than usual
you have a fast heartbeat with shortness of breath, chest pain or feeling faint
You need to go to hospital for treatment immediately.

The ablation might not have fixed the svt you might need more treatment. Good luck and try not to worry.

Needanewname42 · 12/09/2024 00:54

I'd go to A&E. Let the triage nurse decide where you are on the priority list.

Tbh yeah I was thinking that as well, just really would have preferred not to go for obvious reasons but think it would be sensible to get it checked.

urgh, really upset as the ablation had basically cured me, hopefully this is just a one off blip

its been 180 now for about 3 hours and I actually feel fine but ill go and get it checked just in case, better to be safe than sorry

Another poster adding to the advice to head to A&E.

Honestly they are the best placed to both medically check you out and provide help if you need it. Please go and get their help.

Yeah you’re right (and everyone else)

it’s freezing cold outside tonight so im going to call a taxi and hope that the cold air when I go outside kicks my heart back into a normal rhythm before I even go back to the hospital, haha

just so gutted it’s happened again and really don’t like the idea of going back to a&e again (feel like a bit of a frequent flier!) but nowhere else to go when unwell at this time of night I suppose

I'd go to A&E. I have tachycardia and once had a heart rate of 210, I did not know this was possible :(

Please go to A&E.

What helps also is laying flat with your legs up. It does help slow the heart rate, but A&E is the way to go.

DryBiscuit · 12/09/2024 01:35

A&E - No Question

Not wasting time at all

Amba1998 · 12/09/2024 01:39

Ablations don’t always work. Sometimes a pathway is missed. A&E

XlemonX · 12/09/2024 02:10

A&e considering your history of SVT
have you tried drinking cold water? Or splash cold water on your face?

Csdrassticcallychanginngnnammes · 12/09/2024 02:15

Just go to A & E FFS.

Maybe read the thread before being so bloody sarky

I had already said over an hour before that I was going to a&e

AutumnLeaves91 · 12/09/2024 22:46

Hope you’re okay @Heartwoes and you’ve been treated!

Heartwoes · 13/09/2024 11:15

Thank you very much 😊

It was actually ok by the time I got there and I think the valsalva had reversed it

but annoyingly it’s started again this morning! Could cry- don’t want to go back again but don’t really have much choice. So frustrating!

how long ago was your ablation? I have had several for atrial fibrillation, and there is what they call a blanking period of 3 months where you may get break through episodes. Wishing you well.

Do you have access to your consultant's secretary or an arrhythmia nurse you could call?

Heartwoes · 15/09/2024 10:47

It was SVT on Friday- was in hospital for about 7 hours and it eventually came down

aaaaand yet again, it’s kicked off today. Unbelievable, don’t know whether to laugh, cry or burst into tears

really don’t fancy a&e on a Sunday afternoon either, can’t think of anywhere worse tbh

McGregor33 · 15/09/2024 10:51

I would get referred back to cardiology. It took 4 ablations for rectify my wolf Parkinson white syndrome! Each time it came back I thought I was imagining it or being dramatic as I’d had the ablation xxx

Heartwoes · 15/09/2024 10:53

The only thing I can think of is I had a coffee with breakfast this morning, I thought I would be able to since caffeine doesn’t usually trigger it but I’m wondering if that’s brought it on? Feel so stupid now, don’t know why I had that
