I don't get all these videos with people whispering and pretending to be giving you a haircut.

OP posts:
DayDreamer324 · 11/09/2024 22:14

I find it weird and seedy

PunishmentRoundupWithJoon · 11/09/2024 22:16

It does the absolute opposite of relax me - makes me murderous. I HATE it.

Jojimoji · 11/09/2024 22:18

Yep, all those tapping talons and crinkly crisp packets grind my gears.

HeySummerWhereAreYou · 11/09/2024 22:19

Eh? Confused

BeachHutsAndDeckchairs · 11/09/2024 22:28

The overly sexy stuff is ridiculous but I do like watching people be measured for suits or having their glasses fixed because it makes me feel weirdly tingly on my head and neck.

QwestSprout · 11/09/2024 22:30

If you don't feel the 'tingles' then you aren't going to understand it I think.
It isn't anything sexual, but for those of us with Chronic Pain it can briefly help.

Proseccoh · 11/09/2024 22:33

I used to think it was cute when I first noticed it on social media. Then suddenly all my children turned into teenagers who wander around in almost complete silence with their headphones on and every "click" "Swoosh" "Door close" "Footstep" etc seems ridiculously loud and irritating. I grew up in a house where there was always loads of background noise (TV/Radio which I also didn't like), but it's all so quiet here except for those annoyingly loud little noises...

Laffydaffy · 11/09/2024 22:36

ASMR has its place, though. For me, back when I had an extremely stressful, horrible experience, I could not fall asleep without sleeping tablets. I stumbled upon listening to sleep-ASMR (not watching) , and was the only way I could fall asleep and get back to sleep. It stopped my rumination. Even now, when I am stressed and having trouble sleeping, it works.

There are many weird ASMR channels, though. Horses for courses...

Kona84 · 11/09/2024 22:57

Apparently it’s good for anxiety and calming.
it makes me feel dirty.
when I found out my partner was listening to them to fall asleep to it upset me, mainly that he was laid in bed with me refusing any touch or cuddles but happily listening to a woman moan and whisper to him. I challenged him that if it was just about the sounds then it wouldn’t matter if it was a man rather than a woman with barely any clothes and practically doing oral on a mic.
he got the point and doesn’t listen to them to fall asleep anymore

Releasethebat · 11/09/2024 23:06

I had no idea what this is so I just looked it up on Wikipedia. Most of these things are like nails on a chalkboard to me. I get a strong tingly feeling when someone whispers in my ear or blows on my neck, from having my hair brushed or from the sound of the pages in a really thick book being flipped or if you run your finger over the teeth of a comb, but to me, it's a deeply unpleasant feeling. I can't believe people actually like it.

Thistooshallpass24 · 12/09/2024 02:31

@TheAverageJoanne have you been living under a rock? It's been around for ages, tbh I thought it had passed.
I don't get it, or watching unboxing videos bizarre 😶

Ago2 · 12/09/2024 02:38

So relaxing, makes my head tingle, I use them to fall asleep sometimes

Caerulea · 12/09/2024 02:58

It's about making ppl with misophonia want to claw their own eyes out

CottonCandyLand · 12/09/2024 03:55

I love TingTing ❤️
she sends me to sleep

lavenderlou · 12/09/2024 04:27

My 11yo loves it. She is constantly tapping her nails against things and wants some sort of asmr microphone for her birthday. I find most of the videos baffling but must admit to having spent quite some time watching soap carving.

Josette77 · 12/09/2024 04:35

I love it.
It helps calm my anxiety.

CrunchyCarrot · 12/09/2024 04:49

Any sounds like that just irritate me but then I do have hyperacusis so I prefer quiet.

hulahoopqueen · 12/09/2024 04:55

I routinely am abducted to sleep by a very softly spoken alien. It can be excellent for shutting out background noise.
I hate the scratching and tapping ones, I just like the whispery ones.

I like animal ones - cat's grooming themselves etc

RhaenysRocks · 12/09/2024 06:12

I've honestly never heard of this. What exactly is it?

lljkk · 12/09/2024 06:17

Creepy, irritating, distracting. I'd rather listen to nails scratching down a blackboard.I can't help but strain & try to make some sense out of the sound. Very opposite of relaxing.

Find some youtube videos, Rhaeny.

I'd like someone who find ASMR great to share their favourites here. I am baffled, myself.

GoditsSeptember · 12/09/2024 06:23

I find it annoying my kids love it. I remember during lockdown they wanted to watch someone drive over pop bottles and packets. Washing toys in coloured dye, lifting little foam beads up as you would a sand pit and popping things. I was already lockdown tetchy without the weird noises.

dancinfeet · 12/09/2024 06:45

I hate the food ones- chomp chomp, slurp slurp- but they don’t appear to swallow the food, the throat never moves to get rid of each mouthful. Then cram in another mouthful and chomp slurp repeat- it makes me angry at the horrible noise and essentially terrible table manners. At the same time I’m fascinated- have they have mastered the art of eating without swallowing? Or is it some clever camera trickery where filming is paused after every mouthful to spit the food out and carefully edited together? Can that tiny person (it’s always a little sylph like woman) really chomp her way through a seafood platter for 6? so many questions
